Re: Pictures of new acquisitions 1892, 1896 and Lightning
Nice, especially the wood on that 86. Will you be shooting them? They look like they need to be taken out and used.. The shotgun and 1892 for sure. There was a fair amount of residue in the barrel of the shotgun so I know it had regular use. I am pretty sure that the 1892 has not been fir...

Re: Pictures of new acquisitions 1892, 1895 and Lightning
. The rifle you're referring to as a Model 1895 is a Hi-Grade Model 1886/86, made by Miroku for Winchester. That rifle has a tube magazine with the loading gate in the RH side of the receiver; the Model 1895 has a vertical magazine that looks like a readily-detachable mag, but isn't. . Thanks... I ...

Re: Pictures of new acquisitions 1892, 1896 and Lightning
On the 1896 there is a spot where it looks like tape was used to hold the saddle ring (or protect the engraving.) unfortunately it appears to have etched into the finish. Any suggestions on how to clean it? I hit it with oil and a rag and that is about it. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e72/jfg_4...

It's a long story but my wife's dad died shortly before we were married. The estate pretty much went to her step mom and there is some history there. After nine years we were able to purchase some things from the estate. The wife really wanted things that would have meant something to her dad and wo...

What is the general opinion on shooting anniversary editions
What is the general opinion on shooting anniversary editions? I have a Winchester 1894 1976 bicentennial edition. It is an unfired specimen that I picked up for about the same price as a normal 1894. I would hate to be the one to depreciate this thing- but I kind of would like to shoot it. What say ...

Thanks! Bore looks pretty good but someone else suggested giving the barrel a good cleaning. I did not notice any pitting though.
I need to replace the screw in the end cap and I will take her to the range towards the end of the week!

Here is under the hand guard. There is nothing on the top of the barrel near the reciever other than caliber. The food is tight and fits well. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e72/jfg_4/image_zpsmrx0rocc_1_zpsd24cjzzy.jpg After looking at this closer it may be a refinish or a really well preserved ...

Re: Picked up an 1892 but what is it?
I really have no history behind the gun. My wife dad was a collector and a cowboy action shooter. He died shortly before we were married (almost ten years ago). The executer had the collection appraised and the appraiser said it was refinished. It is .44wcf. It is absolutely beautiful and has a bett...

Re: Picked up an 1892 but what is it?
Thanks! I will probably put a few rounds down range. I have a couple of Brazilian 1892's in 44-40 that I love. The action on the Winchester is slick as butter. The bore is decent - rifling is there but not super deep. I need to get a better bore scope to look closer. The magazine tube has a bit of p...

Picked up an 1892 but what is it?
Greetings all. I picked up an 1892 in .44 wcf from my wife's fathers estate. It is in great shape (refinished) but I am a bit confused by the markings. The serial number is 238xx but it is on the bottom of the receiver. It has probably been refinished as everything looks new from the factory. Is thi...

Thanks everybody - problem solved.
The die had some debris in there causing it to not function properly. I really had to hammer to get the thing apart.
Cleaned it up real well and put her back together. Woohoo - just finished loading 100rnds.

Wow!!! I took the Beretta 44-40 SAA out today and what a trip! It was dead on at the 10 yard mark (indoor range). Using Black Hills ammo. A fair amount of flash from the barrel and powder came out as well. Looked impressive anyway. Went through 50 rnds and had a big ol grin on my face. It actually f...
