Finally found a "Remington" six gun
And I've finally got something guns related to blather about. Sheesh...it's been a crazy summer.
I've wanted a Remington 1890 for ages. Well, I finally found one...sort of. It's a Mitchell Arms (Uberti) "1890 Outlaw" (stupid name...) which is a 5.5" Remington 1890 replica with the 1875's under barrel lug in .44 WCF. I guess for looks, but frankly I'd rather just have a proper 1890. However, when I ran across this one a few weeks back for $299 that was it - I was hooked bad!
That's not the proper leather for it but the flap style holster I've ordered for it has yet to arrive. I'll probably hang it on a different belt as well. Given our thread this past week I though I'd better stage it a bit!
It shoots great, a bit high even with 750fps cowboy loads. Maybe some 180 grainers at 700fps will be just the ticket...if I can find them. I must say that I'm not very keen to reload this chambering. This is my first .44 WCF and I can't believe how fragile the brass is - the Winchester factory ammo I've shot thus far I can crimp the case mouths simply by pinching with my fingers and I certainly can't do that with my .45 Colts. Several of the Winchester rounds even came pre-wrinkled with those casings ruined right out of the box. Huh? Aren't I supposed to do that while struggling to reload the stuff? I feel like I was deprived!
At any rate, this one will work just fine for me the few times I feel like straying from Colt clones and it's always nice to get a gun off the bucket list.
Cheers,
Oly

That looks like a fine one, enjoy it. I sure do like the gunbelt rig, what brand is it?

Great looking weapon. That is not a bad looking rig either! Can you tell more about the holster?

Bell your brass just enough to start the base of the bullet and you'll have no problem. At the very beginning I wrecked one, maybe two cases, but that was all. I've reloaded 44 WCF (44-40) for a few years now and haven't damaged any brass since. You may find yourself enjoying that Remington more than you expected.

That holster and belt is a Ross Gun Leather rig but it's for 1873 Colts and similar.

Re: Finally found a "Remington" six gun
Nice!
I bought one in .45 Colt not long after they came out. Worked fine until I fired it then it would lock up tighter than a vault (even with snap caps). Exchanged it for something else but I'm not opposed to getting another someday. I REALLY like the Remington design over the Colt (yeah, I'm a heathen ).
Wait, I had the 1875 5.5"...DUH!

What you might do is call VTI and talk to Lisa. Ask her if she has the correct 1890 Uberti Ejector Housing. Item #163 part# UB:155163. If you changed to the 1890 it should fit that holster, too.olyinaz wrote:And I've finally got something guns related to blather about. Sheesh...it's been a crazy summer.

Nice snag and....a nice price. Sure is a buyers market today.---------Sixgun
ps...go back in time-------I was 21 and the year was 1975.........auction..............new in box nickel plated 1875 Remington in 44 Rem. cal.-------auction price.....$800 ...........I still remember everyone gasping at the huge price it brought. Some rich old guy bought it. IIRC, in those days I was bringing home about $150 a week.----------Sixgun
