A tale of two delayed account activations...

Post by AmBraCol »

Funny thing happened today. We received notes from two guys who signed up and had not been activated yet. Here's the first note.
Hello,

I initially signed up on X/XX around Xpm. I just saw your message on the registration procedure.
Straight, to the point, polite. And he's now got an activated account. The second note was as follows:

Please cancel my request. Since you are too busy to offer the courtesy of a timely response,
it's obvious to me that I would not want to interact with a group such as yours.
I do understand that people have busy schedules, and that personal issues come first,
but I have limits too.

Never read the "stickies" and then got snooty. Experience has taught us that folks with an attitude like this are future problem makers. Account not activated.

People, you gotta love 'em. :)

The second fellow had waited 7 days before even attempting to contact us and his first message was to tell us to never mind.

The truth is that if you never contact us, we will, in fact, NEVER mind. You MUST contact us using the e-mail address given or you will NOT be activated (or RE-activated). If you decide you want to or must change your e-mail address, we need to re-activate you. Dittos (IIRC) for handle changes.
Sincerely,

Hobie

The second guy's attitude sounds like the occasional patient we get with a "tell that doctor that my time is just as important as his time" attitude, and gets all bent out of shape if they have to wait to be seen. (Those are invariably the same patients who scheduled to get a sore throat looked at, but 'while they are here' they want to have you refill heart medications which they're out of because they didn't get the required lab work done to make sure the meds aren't harming their liver, need a new lab order because they lost theirs, and have FMLA papers they want you to fill out about their back pain... ) I politely remind them that if I actually thought my time was so all-fired important moreso than the patient's time, I'd limit each visit to 6 minutes like the hospital-owned docs are told to, make sure I got a thirty-minute lunch break instead of a three-minute one, and always be home in time for supper.

Other times it's a UAW guy who's making triple what I make per hour, and gives me a 'lecture' about me charging too much because I'm 'greedy'; I used to take it personally or get upset, but now I just snicker at their ignorance (I guess it's not really their fault) and move along with my day.

Some folks must surely get tired, always hurrying, pushing and shoving to get ahead, all the while carrying around big chips on their shoulders and always looking for something to get angry about. What a waste of energy and passion. . . they should save it for women, or religion, or politics...!

Those types can take their adversarial 'attitude' elsewhere; it leaves me more time to spend with patients who actually appreciate me trying to help them with their medical issues or stay healthy. :D

In French cuisine, a quiche (English pronunciation: /ˈkiːʃ/; keesh) is an oven-baked dish made with eggs and milk or cream in a pastry crust. Usually, the pastry shell is blind-baked before the other ingredients are added. Other ingredients such as cooked chopped meat, vegetables, or cheese are often added to the egg mixture before the quiche is baked. Quiche is generally an open pie (i.e. it does not include a pastry covering).
Pumkin Pie filling recipe ingredients
# 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
# 2 cups canned pumpkin, mashed
# 1 cup sugar
# 1/4 teaspoon salt
# 1 egg plus 2 egg yolks, slightly beaten
# 1 cup half-and-half
# 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) melted butter
# 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
# 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
# 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger, optional
So, is pumpkin pie quiche... or not?

My personal favorite is APPLE pie. I love apple pie as much as I love prime rib or scallops (or prime rib AND scallops).
Sincerely,

Hobie

When was this thread about firearms?

NO HOBIE, even if I don't like pumpkin pie, it can't be French! Just as sparkling wine from CA can't be champagne, I don't care how many eggs you use, pumpkin pie is far, far too American to be called quiche!

Actually, this thread started as a general topic about the FORUM, and that's as close to firearms as it started. The funny thing is, the statement that "real men don't eat quiche or read instructions" implies that there are few "real men" on the forum as one pretty much has to read the instructions to get approved - and folks had to read the instructions when the old sixgunner.com site went down so as to find this place. :)

The properly worded statement would read something like: "Real men don't read the instructions until all else fails."

I strenuously disagree with the theory that Pumpkin Pie is a form of quiche! Just because something has a couple of egg yolks in it doesn't make it a quiche. Pumpkin Pie is as American as the 13 states or an Adirondack autumn. Anyone who says that Pumpkin Pie is a quiche needs to wash their mouth out with soup, By Gum!!!

Edit: My wife just told me that quiche is mostly made of eggs. Pumpkin pie is mostly made of Pumpkin, so there you go.

Just for the record, I'm not a big fan of quiche and I only read instructions if all else fails. I really like Pumpkin Pie topped with real whipped cream, especially my wife's home-made recipe made with Pumpkins right out of our garden.

Hobie,

How dare you insert logic into this thread!

COSteve,

Man, that was funny! And your dad has a point, too. I too have seen that 'method' of asking for a favor applied before with predictable results. Can't say I haven't made the same mistake, but I sure try to avoid it.
