The second guy's attitude sounds like the occasional patient we get with a "
tell that doctor that my time is just as important as his time" attitude, and gets all bent out of shape if they have to wait to be seen. (
Those are invariably the same patients who scheduled to get a sore throat looked at, but 'while they are here' they want to have you refill heart medications which they're out of because they didn't get the required lab work done to make sure the meds aren't harming their liver, need a new lab order because they lost theirs, and have FMLA papers they want you to fill out about their back pain...
) I politely remind them that if I actually thought my time was so all-fired important moreso than the patient's time, I'd limit each visit to 6 minutes like the hospital-owned docs are told to, make sure I got a thirty-minute lunch break instead of a three-minute one, and always be home in time for supper.
Other times it's a UAW guy who's making triple what I make per hour, and gives me a 'lecture' about me charging too much because I'm 'greedy'; I used to take it personally or get upset, but now I just snicker at their ignorance (
I guess it's not really their fault) and move along with my day.
Some folks must surely get tired, always hurrying, pushing and shoving to get ahead, all the while carrying around big chips on their shoulders and always looking for something to get angry about. What a waste of energy and passion. . .
they should save it for women, or religion, or politics...!
Those types can take their adversarial 'attitude' elsewhere; it leaves me more time to spend with patients who actually appreciate me trying to help them with their medical issues or stay healthy.
