Re: Winchester model 53 (25-20) ... what do I do with it?

A big reason to use the bronze wool is that the particles left behind will not rust and leave rust marks on the wood as steel wool will. If you have a boat with teak decks around salt water the rust spots show up fast on the decks as a result of using steel wool. Sanding wet with oil may help for st...

Re: .45-70 Ammo for the Iditarod?

The Iditarod can be a hostile place as evidenced by this interview with a contestant, Susan Butcher: "In 1985, I was traveling alone at night in the lead of the race and ran into an obviously crazed moose. She was starving to death. There was something wrong with her. She was just skin and bone...

Re: .45-70 Ammo for the Iditarod?

I'd want the gun on my person, as the sled isn't always where you are when things go nasty. AJ is spot on. My 2400 hrs as a FAC in RVN (Birddogs) taught me that you leave a downed plane with what you have. It has to be on your body. Mine was a 1911. Long arms are nice to contemplate, but it seldom ...

I sometimes do that with employees , too - if we have a position, I'll hire two part-timers and let them know up-front that one of them will not be staying after 90 days, and the other will get full-time status. It's "mean", but as long as I'm honest up front, it's a good way to sort 'em ...

They also make a bronze wool which I used to use on our boat. The small bits left behind won't promote more rust.

Just using pencil lead will also remove some light stuff.

I primarily carry Colt LW OFC in either Mernickle PS6SA or Milt Sparks IWB (summer). Also have Ruger 45LC, Birdshead with 3" bbl in a Mernickle PS6SA. Prefer the Colt. Sometimes substitute the a Colt Govt (1943) model for the LW Ofc Model, especially in winter. Don't shoot the Govt. too much as...

I quit using the humidifier on mine because I'm lazy and didn't feel like cleaning it once a week. Which you need to do if you use it to keep the little bugs out of your lungs. Besides down here the humidity stays around 70-80% all year long anyway. Try soaking it in OXYCLEAN for a few hours. I fin...

Used .45 ACP in Sunny SE Asia. From a slow Bird Dog they sort of just spiraled to the ground. Used primarily to start fires in the dry grass. Not as effective as thermite grenades (these where similar to smoke grenades).
