Mine measures .458 and .450. My chamber throat is .463 and it shoots best with a 405 grain bullet sized to .462.
It has been my experience that if the throat area is oversize which is common in today's market sizing to fit the throat is worth trying.

Nothing gives down range performance like a pure lead bullet that has been paper patched. If this is for a hunting load you only need enough to sight it in and then what you hunt with. Rossi trapper in 44 mag and an early security six, I also like my super Blackhawk but I have to shoot the blackwawk. the security six will shoot itself. My 20" rossi in 357 comes close to the trapper.

I never did find a real sweet spot using the Gould bullet with my Marlin either. I do not remember the numbers but the groups i was getting were in the 2.5 inch range. Mine likes the Lee hollow based 405 and 40 grains of 3031. I shoots just under 1.5 inches. Paper patching and sizing to .461 shrinks...

I like it because it allows you to go from tha slung rifle to ready to fire without changing the shape of your silloutte.
Also it makes fo a steady hold with a Rossi Ranch Hand by extenting your arms until the sling is tight.

Williams makes a receiver sight that fits the holes drilled for the rear scope mounts. I believe that x cess and skinner do also. Probably not a complete list.

Doesn't birch bark have asperin in it? Yes, birch and willow are both sources of salicylic acid. As are wintergreen berries and leaves. Wintergreen contains methyl salicylate as esther which smells and tastes better than the willow bark. Both are effective anti inflammatory agents and pain killers....

Try a Henry youth model. It comes with a short barrel. If you need a longer reach have another stock made. If you like it ans still want a short mod 39 then do it. Congratulations on a great buy. Mine is a 77 model. I think I recall that some of the 1972 guns were equipped with Douglas barrels and old style rifling. Of course at my age it may be something else I am remembering. 2 million facts, 2 million subjects, 200 connecting lines.

Ditto on the 10 gauge, but I cannot recall ever seeing it in a Manuel. Never really looked since my shotgun hunting is pretty seldom. I also seem to recall that the reg was to help stop the market hunting.
