Re: Whew, cook stove wood done

I know what you mean. I finished hauling in all the wood I had cut and split in the bush today and I didn't quite fill my 3 rows, I probably have enough, but I'll go back and cut another small one down just to be sure I have enough, hate looking for wood in the spring if I run out.

Re: Whew, cook stove wood done

I have all my wood in for this winter and almost all my wood stacked outside for next winter. I use wooden pallets laid out between two big maples in my back yard. I have 3 rows of 14" to 16" maple fire wood 4' tall by 30 feet long. Next fall I will put that in my garage I usually don't ha...

Way to go Jake. You have one on me, I have never had a chance to shoot a bear. I have seen them, but never when it was legal to hunt them.. You have done good, enjoy it, and I hope you have many more chances on another bear..

My new side lever

A while back I asked about the Zastava Z98 rifle. Most of the comments were positive.Last week I ordered a left hand in 6.5x55 Swede. It arrived Monday and I started to play with it. I was a little disappointed in that it didn't feed very well and was pretty gritty. i contacted the dealer and discus...

Re: Watch that cheap factory ammo...

I would pull the bullet on 1 and resize it to see if it loads ok then. I don't think you could resize a loaded round since the bullet wouldn't permit the case to enter the die. Bottle neck dies make the neck smaller and the resizer button brings it back to the right internal dimension.i guess we do ...

I'd vote for the Axis also. I have one in 223 and it shoots great!! It may not be the prettiest out there but it is not a fashion show. For a starter rifle I don't think it can be beat. (value for money spent)

Re: Zastava M98 mauser rifle questions

I am looking long and hard at the 6.5x55. The slow twist is what has me hesitating a bit. I figure the 160 round nose, due to design should be fairly stable since it is a modern model 98 and I can hot rod it a bit to get velocity up from lighter loads listed for the model 96 and Krag rifles. The lon...

Re: Zastava M98 mauser rifle questions

I did some more research and found the twist rate for the 6.5 is only 1-9 sort of slow for anything over a flat base 140 sp. Sort of mixed comments on this twist rate. I probably would only use this on deer, but could possibly use on something larger ie moose if I ever get a chance to hunt them. Any...

Re: Zastava M98 mauser rifle questions

Thanks for the replies. I was trying to make up my mind on caliber and find myself leaning towards the 6.5x55. From what I have read so far it is sort of the 30-30 of bolt rifles. Shoots great, light recoil, low noise and efficient harvester of game. What is not to like? I have had both a 270 and 30...

Zastava M98 mauser rifle questions

A dealer near me has some Zastava model 98 comercial Mauser rifles available in left hand. (new in box) I have been thinking about a left hand side lever for awhile now and these ones have lit the fire again. I have read a few reviews, most say good value for the money but a little rough. That doesn...
