Want to make some 358 cases from some new 308 brass that I've had a while. Never tried it before. Is it better to aneal the neck area first? Or just lube inside of neck and run em through the sizing decaping die? Any tips will be appreciated.

Re: right way to neck up 308 brass to 358?
I believe most folks just lube the neck up well and run it through the sizing die. It would probably be a good idea to aneal the neck area if the cases had been used more than one or two times.

Run them right in the 358 dies with the normal amount of lube. Works every time.

I have made 356 from 307 (same thing) with no issues. Just lube the inside of the neck well and run them through your 358 die.

The above methods will work Ok and if you go slow, should present no problem. For necking up 30-06 brass to 35 Whelan or .308 brass to .358, I prefer to use a tapered expanding plug instead of the regular plug. The mouths come out more even with the thickness of the brass more evenly distributed. Available from RCBS
If you only have a few boxes to do, don't sweat it and use your regular plug.
