Amazing, I wondered about those powders. So, the manufacturers are selling us short on the real performance available! It may be possible to have a 40grn bullet doing 1500 easy! Maybe wmr could do over2000 all day, as per the rws loadings!! Just an observation from reading different postings regard...

Old No 7, I never realized that it got that cold in Maine. Thought it only got that cold here in the Dakotas   My advice to you is to wear a good pair of long underwear; either wool or polypropylene and then layer, layer, layer. I bet that tree was once by a pond or river. IMO, Some fisherman went and took the hook end of a lure he was using and hooked in to the bark of a tree and forgot about it. What y'all see is the back of the lure while the hook is embedded in the little piece of wood on the front of it.

Why did you feel disappointed? While I have not coon-fingered THAT model, I have handled the regular Henry's and while they are heavier than Marlins or Winny's, the fit and finish has been excellent along with a very smooth action.

Coon fingered a Henry 3030 a couple of weeks ago at a local emporium and was impressed with its fit and finish. Action was nice and smooth.
But it WAS however pretty hefty.
If you wanted a Marlin, I would go with one of the pre-remington ones for sure.

Great explanation of how you do the file work. And a lot of work it is. Do you put a light coat of oil on the freshly filed metal so it won't start to develop rust or is that something you don't have to worry about if kept warm and dry?

Colt Double Eagle 45 acp pistol. It was a jam'omatic from day one. I had several smiths look at and tinker with it but both said it was a crappy design. I didn't want to sell it to some other sucker so I eventually took a sledge hammer to the frame and slide and threw it in the rubbish
