Re: disaster! a girl, a grizzly and a 30/30

tman, You are most welcome. Good point about the .44 Mag. A .44-40 loaded with the heavier 240 gr. bullet of proper construction would be a different animal indeed loaded in a '92 Win or '94 Marlin as compared to the normal cartridge.. Here's a couple of stories about the use of a handy '94 carbine....

Re: disaster! a girl, a grizzly and a 30/30

I think I figured out where all the 30/30 can't kill grizzlies came from. Years ago Clint Walker did a movie, B movie at best, called Night of the Grizzly. In it he repeatedly shoots said grizzly with a levergun until the magazine is empty, then in typical Clint Walker fashion goes mano-a-mano with...

Re: .38 WCF questions

I decided to check the black powder levels in some .38-40 cases I have. Note the difference in the densities between Goex and Swiss. I don't have any .38-40 Starline brass but R-P .44-40 brass holds about 2 more grs of powder than .44-40 Starline brass. http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o25/w30wcf...

If your rifle will chamber a cartridge with a .312 bullet in it, then you are good to go.
6 grs of Trail Boss, 4756, Unique, Universal, will produce close to 1,200 f.p.s with the 115 gr and a bit more with the lighter bullets and should be pretty accurate.

HISTORIC Ideal .30 Caliber "Short Range" bullets

In the early 1900's Ideal came up with the idea of offering lighter versions of some of their standard bullets with the intended use being for what they called “Short Range” shooting. In those days, "Short Range" could be up to 200 yards. The 125 gr versions worked as they were intended…. ...
