Re: OT-.225 Winchester experiences?
I have a .225 in a win hi-wall that I regularly use on prarie dogs. I love the cartridge. My loads of 33 gr IWR 4064 under a 50 gr V-max runs just slightly behind my 22-250's. I like the round so much that I'm about to re-chamber a Ruger #1 into the .225. IMO, this round is much better than the .223...

Re: Best/favorite gun/ammo combo for feral cats
Like Jim says, whatever is at hand. However, my favorite cat shot occurred with a 220 Swift. I looked out from my workshop one day and spied a feral cat out on my range. He sat down at about the 75 yard line and proceeded to just look around, maybe like he'd just finished a meal of songbird. I cente...

Update on Terry Murbach
Friends of Terry need to know that he had five hours of surgery yesterday to repair a perforated bowel and to clean up a massive intra-abdominal abscess. I talked with Judy just now; she says he is resting well, tolerated the surgery reasonably well, but is on heavy doses of antibiotics and pain-con...

Re: The Making of a Rifled Barrel
Thanks, Hobie, for posting this article. The author is very articulate and has a knack for explaining his topic. I have always wanted to spend a few days watching the barrel making process, as well as viewing the machining of actions and parts. I never had the oportunity to learn tool and die work, ...

RSY, I'm not a vet but I am a retired board certified clinical microbiologist. The short answer for your goats is: no, they cannot contract leprosy. Leprosy is a disease of humans and oddly armadillos. (Maybe some of us are genetically related!!) If I can paraphrase a recent article appearing in Cli...

Re: 35 Winchester to Ackley Improved?
Lots of excellent replies here. I happen to have a Winchester M1895 in .35 WCF 'improved'. I won't call it Ackley improved because it doesn't have the 40 degree shoulder, but the case body is blown out 0.012 at the shoulder. This gives it very little taper. The rifle was advertised as a .35, and whe...

Re: Sorta O.T. Lasik Surgery
Like DerekR says, the best money you[ll ever spend. After wearing coke-bottle glasses all my life, I had lasik done in 2000. I had astigmatism so bad that shooting (hunting) and hitting the target was very difficult. I now need glasses only for reading. I can also hit what I shoot at, or at least I ...

Re: OT - Scoped bolt/single rifle suggestions
How about a Browning BLR in 30-06, .308, or .243. You should be able to locate a used one in your price range. Nothing wrong with the 110, though. The BLR's are superbly balanced and they are a lever. Tom

I enjoy shooting my vintage TD in .33 WCF, but have not taken any game with it, YET! I use Redding form dies to neck down 45-70 brass. Trimming is necessary but no neck turning. I've also used Jameson brass, which is fine. Due to the Iraq/Afghan war, it is currently unavailable from Jameson. I shoot...

I agree with Leverluver's comment about the zipper. Use the TD sparingly and it should last forever. Your idea of concealment while flying is a good idea, and unless you fly somewhere weekly to hunt you'll never wear it out. I have an original 86 TD manufactured in 1920 that is still completely tigh...

Boomer, I've got to weigh in here. I've got 30-06's in both the BLR and the Browning M1895. I hunt both guns, and this past year seem to reach for one or the other every time. I've never noticied the long throw, maybe since mine is a pistol grip model. The straight grip models are more handsome, but...

Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated by those effected last night. We had 5-6 inches of rain just south of Mt Vernon, but the tornadoes went 6-8 miles south of us. I didn't have any damage, but a long stretch of Misosuri along I-44 got hit by multiple tornadoes and high wind. Some were killed a...

n2t, you asked if $15K would take the two of you. My wife went with me on this years levergun safari. So far we've spent a little over $11K total, which includes several side trips that were organized for the women. This also includes trophy fees for three head of game. Hobie, I paid $380 for one this summer. It was came with a scope and was in better condition than I expected when it arrived; I'd have to call it mint. One supplier you guys have overlooked is: www.armsandammo.com Arms and Ammo is in Ash Grove, Mo and up until recently was the cheapest place I could find for brass and bullets. Hey Griff, Midway, Graf's, and Arms and Ammo all list 32-40 winchester brass as available. I've not had any trouble buying from them for my old winnie 32-40. I enjoy forming 33 WCF brass, and I've had a go at some 35 WCF improved. Making it from 30-40 Krag brass leaves the case too short. Original b...

POLITICS - The problem with giving up our guns
When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace. They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars with the tribes would cease. But when we disarmed, they sold us and delivered us bound to our foes, and the gods of the Copybook Heading said, "Stick to the devil your ...

POLITICS - Laws that forbid...
Here's some fodder for those of us who believe in RKBA: Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined or determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assualted and better for the assailants; they serve to encourage rather than to prevent homic...

Blackhawk, I have to jump in here. Several years ago, as a novice pistol shooter, I was amazed to watch Jim Taylor and other friends shoot their single actions at 100 and 200 yards.
