POLITICS - Laws that forbid...

Post by Fungus Sam »

Here's some fodder for those of us who believe in RKBA:

Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined or determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assualted and better for the assailants; they serve to encourage rather than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.

Thomas Jefferson, Commonplace Diary, 1774

I just hope the Lawyers for the D.C. SCOTUS thing will collect all the quotes from our founding fathers.

It is obvious he isn't talking about someone trying to rob a militia

My son recently completed an English class report on gun control. This quote, and several others actually changed some of his fellow students minds. They had no idea our founding fathers spoke this way. Others in the class did not even know who Thomas Jefferson was. He received a "B" on the overall report, but was complemented on his research.

Good for him! Back in college - a long time ago - I took a public speaking class. We had to give 6 speeches throughout the semester, each with a different topic and different goal. Every one of my speeches had to do something with firearms and/or our Second Amendment rights. The final speech was one to persuade, and had to be 10-12 minutes long. I did it on rejecting attempts to ban handguns, especially the "Saturday Night Specials". It was exactly 11 minutes long, and I received 25 minutes worth of questions. I ended up with an "A" for the course! :D
