Sorta O.T. Lasik Surgery
A little off topic but we are shooters/hunters and good vision is paramount. I am considering Lasik when the kids braces are paid. Anyone have any experience? It seems much less exotic and hopefully expensive than it once was. Thanks. 1886.

I did it three years ago. The best money I EVER spent. I have worn glasses/cpntacts since I was 10 years old. I now have 20/20 in one eye and 20/15 in the other. It is especially nice for hunting. Fogged up glasses have always been a problem. The funny thing is that I now have to use reading glasses, but they told me that would happen (46 yrs old). I have found it improved my shooting, especially with pistols and iron sighted rifles.

The Lovely and Talented Miss Randi was legally blind before she had her eyes done (the doctor said it was the greatest correction he'd ever done). That was 10 years ago. She's ecstatic! I think is was the best investment we ever made.
Like you were told in previous posts, she does have to wear reading glasses for close work now, but it's a small price to pay for normal vision.

Like DerekR says, the best money you[ll ever spend. After wearing coke-bottle glasses all my life, I had lasik done in 2000. I had astigmatism so bad that shooting (hunting) and hitting the target was very difficult. I now need glasses only for reading. I can also hit what I shoot at, or at least I can't blame my eyes!! Do the operation, follow all their instructions about eye care right after surgery, and you'll be pleased with the results.

Gary,
My Ex did it about 6-7 years ago. She was "blind as a bat" without her coke bottle thick glasses. After the procedure she was 20/20 n both eyes.
She said the worst part was the itching after the surgery but it passed pretty quickly.
before the procedure she couldn't recognize me accross a room. A month after she had better eyesight than I did.

I waited too long, the ophthalmologist told me that they don't do Lasik surgery after the age of 50 unless there are special circumstances. How rather than having 20/20 vision, or even getting back into single-vision glases, I'll have to wait until my cataracts ripen enough for removal.

Don't wait, and don't scrimp. Pay good money to have it done by the best IN A HOSPITAL. Avoid the "clinics" if at all possible.
I was worse than 20/400 in my "good" eye before having it done. I haven't worn glasses/contacts (I wore both simultaneousy) in over a year now.
I got the INTRALASE "waveform" Lasik. No blades (microkeratome), just lasers. Fixed my astigmatisim too.
Do it before the economic collapse/socialized medicine.

Re: Sorta O.T. Lasik Surgery
I had mine done about a year ago, but I went a slightly different route. I had my master eye corrected with Lasik for distance and left my other eye alone for reading and close work. It is called mono-vision. The mind adapts in a few days to the change and you find you can see both distance and close just fine. You should talk to you doctor about this. You can find out if you are a candidate for this solution by wearing one corrective lens in your master eye to see if it works for you. Some people can not deal with the mono-vision, but most can. Just another option to consider. It keeps me from having to use reading glasses.

You haven't mentioned where you are...
If you are near Indianapolis, Price Vision Group is the place to go.
If you are near Chicago then Chicago Corneal Consultants is the ticket.

Had mine done Jan 07 while they were correcting the cataracts that were forming. I deployed over here in Sep great to 20-15 in both eyes after wearing glasses all my life.

Do it now! I was blind as a bat (nearsighted) and had it done several years ago. I couldn't see my fingers in front of my face. Now I can see two gnats making love across the street. I was over 60 when I had it done.

Yeah. Ain't life grand? Timing is everything. Had Intralase Lasik been available in '92 I'd still be in instead of being on year 8 of a job hunt.Paladin wrote:Had mine done Jan 07 while they were correcting the cataracts that were forming. You gents have convinced me, too. Reo, I didn't know that anyone else had vision as bad as mine, but your eyes were the same as mine are. I just didn't want to pay the high price, but I guess that I'll call around in two weeks when I have my next day off.
