Re: Anyone shoot a winchester 62

While my 62 was mainly a squirrel gun, it also took it's share of woodchucks and 2 turkeys. Some of my favorite memories with it are shooting rats at the town dump.Would love to be able to do that again.

Re: Anyone shoot a winchester 62

My father bought me a used 62 in 1957 for 15.00. I was 5 years old and it was a little big for me then but I grew into it. It was and still is a great squirrel rifle.

Re: 25/35 load data for new old 1894.

I just picked up a model 55 in 25-35 a few months ago and have been working on loads for it. So far the Hornaday 117 gr. RN and 26 gr. 4320 has been very accurate in my rifle. Tried the Lyman 257325 with 10 gr of 2400 and got very good results with it too. Bullets are cast from WW's

Re: Life Below Zero Question

I noticed she got the revolver because she couldn't shoot off her right shoulder because of an injury. Said she didn't have a left handed rifle so she had to get rid of her Marlin lever ?????????? Can't shoot a lever off the left shoulder I guess.(Ya learn something new everyday)

Re: Vintage Picture Question.

I would go with an 1893 Marlin based on the shadow. 94's diddn't have that distinctive curve.

Re: A Krag in .308??

These Krags were sold as the Globe model 777 around 1960. An article in the Aug. 1961 amer. rifleman said they should be safe if done on a good action, but since they were 50-60 years old (in 1961) there was no way of knowing for sure the action cond. and said the shooter had to decide on if it shou...

I think the box said lubaloy or something similar. It was a yellow box from the 60's or 70's.

Re: It's not a lever 32-20

If your ammo is the copper plated lead type I would say it is the ammo. I had a rem #2 rolling block in 32-20 that wouldn't even hit the backboard at 25yds with this type ammo, but would shoot 1.5-2" groups at 50yds with the lyman 3118 bullet and 4.2gr unique. I also have a Savage 23C like your...

I just picked up an early El Tigre (20"barrel) the quality isn't as good as a Winchester, but it is better than the recent 92 copies. Most that I see have seen some hard use.

Sounds like you have a 99G. 300 sav. is a fine deer cartridge. In the 300000 sn# means it was made around 1927. Stith mounts go for big bucks, You made a good choice.

Early 99's had flat muzzles, so yours may be ok. These guys can tell you anything else you may want to know.
