Just Bought Savage 99 Takedown!

Post by jbm1968 »

Well; I went back to my favorite shop a couple of hours ago and now I am the owner of a "New to Me" Savage 99 Takedown in 300 Savage. It is a pistol grip with factory checkering and 24" barrel the front sight has been tapped out (the ramp is there) and the rear sight is gone too. In its place is a Weaver K2.5 in a Stith mount! Of course, I can't take it down with that scope mount on it but that is not a real problem for me. Serial # in the low 300K range. Of course, I can't have it for 10 days due to the PRK having to protect its citizens from me. I am excited! This is my first Savage Levergun!!! Any info appreciated...

If it shoots better than I do, I may put away my pre-64 '06 M-70 next time I take to the field when I feel the need to use a scoped rifle afield.

They also have a M94 in 32 Special in the low 2 million serial # range in good condition sitting on the shelf at $450. What do you think; should I buy it too???

Great find! Sounds like mine, except for the scope and pistol grip.

Get the M94 too!

You know you will get the "go ahead" on the other rifle, go for it if you "need" it!!

Great find Jonathan! They're great guns, ad those Stith mounts for Savage are getting big bucks too!

Thanks for the feedback. I decided to skip on the 32 Special, I already regret it and know it will feel worse later when the price doubles, but I am feeling the need to get something my wife might appreciate, I sure owe it to her

Sounds like you have a 99G. 300 sav. is a fine deer cartridge. In the 300000 sn# means it was made around 1927. Stith mounts go for big bucks, You made a good choice.

Your 99G is two years older than my 99F takedown in .300 Savage.

I've got a 99G in .300 Savage as well. Mine has a Marbles automatic tang sight on it.

Accurate shooter, produces sub 2" groups at 100 yards.
