What kind of sight is this?

Post by Booger Bill »

When I bought this winchester 95 about 40 years ago the rear sight was missing. I had a friend that was a amueter gunsmith and he put this one on for me. The holes matched so no new holes. My handguard wont fit over it, but it works well. My friend had told me the name of it, but forgot what he said. Do any of you know?

I had put on a trapdoor sight on it before this one. As I recall I couldnt use the holes right and it was held on by one screw too short. This one fits. Seems he called it something like officers winfield?

Yep - Springfield put that sight first on their 1884 model and one with slight modifications on their 1888 model -

This 1888 model made in 1890 and is stamped as an Army Ordinance rifle - the last model Trapdoor they produced (production stopped in 1893). It was "graduated" to 2,000 yards!!
