The Speer 130gr Hot Cor and Winchester 748 has worked good for me in my pre-'64 Model 94. I started using the 130gr bullet based on JimT writing about it.

I go here and the Frontier Sixshooter board, and a lot of the names are ones that were there when I joined in the early 2000s. We're all getting older, but getting the younger generations involved in anything that's not gamer related is difficult these days.

I've got an Olight red dot on my Glock 43X MOS. After 600 rounds it's still holding up. Thanks for all you do for us here! I'm here wrangling grandkids and chickens. I started shooting USPSA again (in the Senior Division, as my granddaughter constantly reminds me,) shooting a little bit every day. Ordering more shooting books to add to the library.

In the novel "Black Light," author Stephen Hunter armed his protagonist, sniper Bob Lee Swagger, with a Mini 14. Hunter is a gun guy, so apparently he has an appreciation for the Mini 14. I'd say you're in good company!

Oh BTW, if you're looking for an all metal hi cap 9mm, the Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0 Metal is outstanding. Steel slide, aluminum frame, optic ready, pretty much good to go right out of the box.

I use and carry a couple of different 9mm handguns, mainly because it's what most of my students use and it's the cheapest to shoot in competition. But my town has such a low crime rate that I'm pretty sure I can handle anything around here with a five or six shot revolver. Never have felt outgunned...

I always carry spare ammo, even though my life doesn't entail chasing bad guys into caves or buildings anymore. Whether it's a revolver or semi, I"ve always got at least one reload. I've usually got extra ammo on whatever long gun I've got in the truck with me.

Andy has this really nice light mount that is no wider than the forend. Scott, I've got that light mount on a couple of my rifles. They've come in handy a few times when I've had to check things out at night by the chicken coop or when the coyotes get too close to the house. Andy definitely came up...

My wife got shingles by her left eye and on her head right before our oldest sons wedding. She said it hurt worse than giving birth to the boy and her appendix rupturing. Never seen her so miserable in 27 years together. Glad you're doing better! That reminds me, gotta call the VA and get my shingle...

Having one of the short shotguns like the Shockwave and your EDC gun will suffice in most cases. An AR pistol will give you more rounds and distance. Neither is wrong, just different tools.
