I've gotten soft in my old age. Was 47 yesterday with an unkind wind and I passed on visiting the range.

Re: Glad some of you are shooting
The only shooting I've done the last few days was the raccoon that got into my shed during the daytime. Can't have them that close to my chickens. Other than that, I haven't tried to walk down to my range. Might have to do that today.

Now you got me feeling guilty! Went shooting yesterday with two of my silhouette rifles. Bright & sunny, dead calm, temperature got to 60*. Had a great time.

Re: Glad some of you are shooting
I went last Thursday 1/22, on account the forecast showed it to be the last decent days weather, and it was right. Been nothing but snow, ice, and Cooolllld since! I left the house it was already near 50dgr before noon. By time I got to the range, which is all the way back in one of our deepest hollows, it was 37dg, the mountains on both sides so big and steep, only the mid day sun can help. But I took coffee and snacks knowing this, and main thing, hardly any wind!
I took only my NRA Centennial 30-30 and several different loads, mainly an untried yet one with the Speer 110gr HP Varmint bullet in front of IMR4895. Id had these a while but yet to try. Glad I did! 32grs of Powder i was punching almost one hole at 25yds, AV about 2,350fps. Just what I wanted in this bullet for my woods walking-plinking load! Plenty accurate im sure they'll be at my longest use of 50 to certainly 75yds max!
Next i shot just a few rounds for fun of couple hunting loads at 100 & 110yds. Fine way to enjoy a good winter day, Thank You Lord!

Re: Glad some of you are shooting
I made the walk through the snow to my range today. I just needed some trigger therapy, so I took my Winchester 62A .22 loaded with some .22 Shorts. Nice thing is that it'll shoot any .22 rimfire except magnums. My steel targets live down on my range, so I shot them. Not much today, but enough to keep me happy for a while.
The really interesting thing I saw was the amount of animal tracks in the snow! Rabbit, deer, coyote, even squirrel and raccoon. Found the spot where a rabbit wasn't wearing his lucky foot and became a meal for a coyote. Nothing but chunks of fur and coyote scat.

I went to an outdoor wedding on a ranch North of Gainesville in February one year, and I remember thinking that was crazy, but it was perfect weather for it.

Re: Glad some of you are shooting
I drove my side by side out across a field today, just to check the tracks in the snow. I can see that at a few deer are still crossing my ridge top, where I often tag out in the fall, every year. I always keep an old pre-64 Winchester 30/30 in a saddle scabbard lashed to my side by side. I was hoping to get a shot a coyote, but none were spotted. I recently purchased a new CZ American .22 boltaction, and I have a new scope for it, but still waiting for scope mounts to come in the mail, or I might have been shooting it today. I think this dam weather has cost me some shipping time. Where's this so called global warming, when you need it most?
