Yep, I was still a kid when they went out of production but if you're lucky they turn up from time to time.

Not a Flatgate but a Lightweight. The 44 had ugly plastic stags when I found it.

If you compare the amount of barrel around the forcing cone on an old Flat Top .357 and the same measurement on a K frame Smith, you won’t believe the difference!

I think there's a lot to this, Scott. We grew up in a generation that appreciated what these guns were, who used them and what they represented. Personally, I know my kids aren't near as big on collecting and shooting them as I am. It's just not a thing anymore, unfortunately.

I picked up an OM Ruger Super Blackhawk, unconverted, for a stupid low price a couple of months ago. There's a slight blemish on the cylinder, but almost no turn line! I'm thinking this must have fallen into that category.

Same as mine. Plumb frame, screws back out on the right, and a low 4-digit serial number.

I agree a bit on how "gun folks" have changed over the decade. Other than Y2K. He has a decent collection himself now, though all utilitarian in nature. But he sure encourages me to keep buying!

Yes. The windage screw is backed out to the right some, but it’s zeroed.

I need to trim the bottom of the stocks a wee bit. Who knows, that might change the zero?

The 1st one I owned was stolen about 1974... when it was recovered during a botched robbery in 1987, (not used in the actual robbery, but found in the trunk as part of the contraband found in the get-away car), and returned to me... it looked like someone had tied it to their trailer hitch and drug it down a gravel road at high speed! Stupidly, I didn't fix the sights, replace the grips, and just traded it off.
