Re: My New 1895 Guide Gun

Great rifle. I found it's not as big of a kick as everyone makes it out to be. It's more of a really big push. I ended up putting on a skinner peep sight instead of a scope. It will be a camp gun or go to shore gun when in grizzly country where targets will be coming in fast and be relatively close....

Re: What happened to that great "old-time look"?

I couldn't agree more. I bought a Marlin Guide Gun but did not like the checkered thick wood, or the finish. So I stripped it, sanded off the checkering, slimmed down the stock quite a bit and refinished it with tung oil. Now I've got a marlin guide gun i like to shoot and look at. http://i867.photo...

Here's my '82 Yamaha XT550.
It's good on the highway, can run fast on logging roads and can still do single track. I love this bike.

Re: Marlin Guide gun Ported or not ported?

I've got a 45-70 Guide Gun in stainless steel, non ported. I bought this gun to take on the sail boat when I was up the northern coast of BC and went a'shore. In the past I would take whistles and noisemakers with me or sing songs to keep the bears and cougars away. Once and a while I could take my ...

Re: Might Move To England

Thank you very much for your input fellas. For me the most powerful argument is the opportunity for adventure and new experiences. London is a great city and the chance to easily travel to other points in Europe would be fantastic-taking a girl to Paris for the weekend sounds as good as it gets. I’m...

Might Move To England

So I am considering taking a job in England. I'd be there on a 5 year contract. I own a couple of lever rifles and a shotgun. In Canada they are all defined as unresticted firearms. Id like to take all three with me. Is it possible to take these firearms to England with me or is the paperwork and re...

Re: New 1895 Guide Gun

I share your interest in the 1895 Guide Gun. I have the stainless steel version. I smoothed out the action a little with some polishing, and ran a few hundred rounds through it. Now it feels great. I was not a fan of the stock finish 'plastic' look of the wood though and did not like the checkering ...

Re: Marlin 1894c in 357/38 calibre - accuracy problems!

Welcome to the forum fellow member of the Commonwealth I also have an 1894c in 357/38s calibre. It might be gun and ammunition specific because I had the reverse problem. In 38s using Winshester jacketed soft point I can ring the gong at the end of the range all day long but if I use American Eagle ...

Re: lever does not sit secure and flush

Update. I put in a new finger lever plunger spring and now it fits snug. While a little harder to open and close it feels more stable when at the shoulder. I cut off a turn and a half as the full spring made it too hard to open and close. I blame myself for when I slicked it up a bit I cut off one t...

Re: Took my Marlin Cowboy Limited out for it's first walk today

Here's the scabbard. It's got leather covered steel protecting the action and has a removable boot. I had it made as a rifle case and at the last minute decided to have the maker add packpacker straps. It works pretty well. I've got one strap double wrapped to serve as a handle to carry it like a su...

Took my Marlin Cowboy Limited out for it's first walk today

I've put a couple of hundred range rounds through her but she has never been out for a walk in the world. I went deep into the forest today and found a few deer and one lone black bear. No shots taken but it was nice to have such a nice carry gun along. I had a scabbard built with knapsack straps th...

I ride a dual sport motorcycle on the logging roads and skid trails, single tracks on Vancouver Island. It takes you into places you just can't get to by car, jeep or even by foot. My buddy was riding with his son on a logging road mid island. The kid was riding about 25 yards ahead and my friend wa...

Re: lever does not sit secure and flush

I already stripped the rifle and polished her up and worked the action a few hundred times and ran a couple a hundred rounds through her. I think I narrowed it down to needing a plunger with a different leading profile so it hold the lever tighter to the receiver. When I get my new tang sight mounte...

lever does not sit secure and flush

On my Marlin 1894 Cowboy Limited in 357 the lever does not not sit tight and when closed. The plunger is engaged and the lever is secure and stays in place when the gun is fired but there is still a little play, less than an eight of an inch, but a bit of movement that I find anoying when I cycle an...

Yes, welcome! And you did an excellent job on that Guide Gun - looks great! Do beware though that in full sunlight, the fiber optic front sight will push your groups left or right - opposite of the sunlight when the sun is low in the sky. No issues in shade or other lower light conditions though. A...

Re: peep sight - oops?

thanks, as I said, I really like the level in place of the rear buckhorns - in fact, with the sights folded the level is actually easier for my tired eyes to shoot on the front blade than buckhorns would be. Your gun is really coming together well. Good job. Where did you get that level in place of...

My First Lever

Here is my first levergun, an 1895GS Marlin, 45-70 of course. I didn't like the checkering and the colour of the stock finish so I refinished it with Polymerized Tung Oil. I put on a stainless steel Skinner peep and a red fiber optic front sight. With the sturdy sling this rifle is now ready for the...
