My First Lever

Post by futura »

Here is my first levergun, an 1895GS Marlin, 45-70 of course.

I didn't like the checkering and the colour of the stock finish so I refinished it with Polymerized Tung Oil.

I put on a stainless steel Skinner peep and a red fiber optic front sight. With the sturdy sling this rifle is now ready for the bush.

Nice rifle. Welcome to the board, and the addiction.

Thanks TedH and firefuzz

The fore end slimming makes the gun handle and look better.

The additiction is strong. I've already bought a second lever, an 1894 Marlin Cowboy Limited in 357.

Nice looking rifle! They're great for toting around. Same with the short barreled levers in .357 and .44. Enjoy!

You'll love it, and want to buy it some 'friends' of different calibers and makes soon...

Welcome Futura. Next fall if all goes well I'll be retired and living on San Juan Island. On a clear day I can see your big island.

Yes, welcome!

And you did an excellent job on that Guide Gun - looks great! Do beware though that in full sunlight, the fiber optic front sight will push your groups left or right - opposite of the sunlight when the sun is low in the sky. No issues in shade or other lower light conditions though.

And you already have another lever Image

thanks for the welcome. The San Juan Islands are great.

On a clear day I can see the Olympic Mountains from my front deck.

Interesting info on the fiber optic in sun pushing my groups.

I usually just practice quick to shoulder free hand shooting to 25 yards so my groups are not groups as much as they're a random collection of holes. :D
