Re: What is "accurate" - really
Like the other replies said, it depends on what you're trying to accomplish. To my way of thinking an accurate rifle lets me hit my intended target at whatever range I care to attempt the shot. For deer sized game, that means hitting a 6" paper plate, first shot, every time. At whatever range y...

Re: Lever Gun “rifle” In .357/38 spl.
I've got a Marlin 1894 and I'm perfectly happy with it.
If I were looking for a Model 92, I'd call Steve Young in Port Arthur, TX and see what he had on the block.

Re: Cast and jacketed bullet loads for Marlin 336 .30-30?
+1 on jacketed load of 30 grains IMR3031 and a 170 grain bullet. For cast, which I'm shooting more of, I like the gas checked Lyman 311041. I lube it twice with Lee Liquid Alox, once before sizing to 0.309 and once after. I launch it with 27.5 grains of IMR 4895 for a load that runs about 1850 fps w...

Re: HUMOR? - How do guys like this get to be cops?
I'm a deputy and certified on a tazer, and no one ever told me that a tazer wouldn't work on a pig. The bigger question becomes: If the tazer was effective, what are you going to do with it once it's tazed? I happen to know that OC spray is very effective on porcine critters. Be careful before peppe...

Re: New Powder From Alliant
Interesting, although I doubt it will chance my mind about very many things.
I like Alliant powder, to the point that I use it almost exclusively in modern centerfire cartridges. But, between R15, R19, and R22 I've about got the range of calibers I use covered.

Re: Lyman tumbler bit the dust....
While we're talking about tumblers, the guys at Harbor Freight have a tumbler I've been looking at. It's about $60.00 and with shipping from the catalog houses, I'm wondering if I'd be better off just carrying that one home. The link to it is here: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.t...

Re: How many powders do you really need?
Hmmm Bullseye and Unique for the pistol calibers, along with Blue Dot for the magnums. Then, there's IMR4831 for my son's rifle and Rel22 for the .243 and -06. There's a half-can of 3031 for the j-bullets in .30-30, but most of that caliber is used up with 4895 and cast bullet loads. The 45-70 uses ...

Re: Chrony suggestios
On the upright metal rods that hold the diffuser screens, put a paint or tape line about halfway up on each of them. Then, when sighting, don't let the front sight, or the crosshairs be any lower than that line. Or, in the alternative, just go ahead and put a bullet through it, and order another chr...

Re: Cowboy boots
Not to make light of your query, but the answer is the one that fits you best. I've worn a bunch of cowboy boots over the years, both work boots and dress-up, from all the major makers and a few of the custom boot makers. I had a pair of Justin elkhide boots that I wore for many years, until there w...

Re: 30-30 wcf
Welcome to the forum! I've been known to shoot a little bit with the .30-30. I'll probably take one out to the range this weekend and sight it in (I don't think it's changed since three weeks ago, but you never know) for the deer season. At last count there were three of them in the gun rack. I'd sa...

Re: Help! A Uberti 73 .357/38 accuracy problem
Every firearm is an individual unto itself. What works in one doesn't necessarily work in another. Something is different with your friend's gun. Maybe the bullets are slightly undersize for that particular barrel. Maybe the twist is different. Maybe the throat is longer or shorter. All rifles are d...

Re: Your Favorite .30-30 Recipes, esp for 170's.
For jacketed 170s I use 30 gr of old 3031. I don't shoot many of these and my 3031 is about 10 years old. I understand that newer 3031 is faster and other load data is available. For cast, I use the 311041, tumble lubed in LLA, sized to .309, gas checked, and tumble lubed again. 27.5 grs of 4895 and...

Louisiana has great gun laws. It's a very gun-friendly state.
