Howdy. The slowing of reflexes, dimming of eyesight, overall health, and daydreaming of decades gone by can sure enough mess up a guy's driving. Howdy. I've gotten so that I hardly hunt squirrels with anything but a shotgun for that "fall Out" reason. # 4 shot might put an eye out; but in free fall it's got to be a whole lot less dangerous. During a major ice storm here a few years back a few folks were trimming ice laden branches ...

Howdy. I find them only sporadically, and yes, they are usually Diamond brand. Check small town country grocers where wood heat is common and also the pipe and tobacco shops. They show up in odd places. Normal retail prices are about $1-$1.25 a box for the big kitchen size. Usually in cellophane wra...

Howdy. I recall an old guy telling me about his Hawthorne bicycle in the ancient past. So I guess Hawthorne certainly...

Howdy. Experience with chainsaws yes, but not with Echo. However, I did use, abuse, and run the fire out of an Echo string trimmer/brush cutter every summer for nearly 8 years in some extreme service and was impressed with that machine. My general impression is that Echo is good stuff. I also have a...

Howdy. If I was in your shoes, I'd reach first for a can of Unique. It's been the basis of more decent multi purpose .38 Special handgun loads over the years than any of us can count. It's also just slow enough burning to gain a little improvement in a carbine. It should be very easy to make 50 yard...

Howdy. I agree that if you are "hittin' what yore shootin' at" with a .45/70, it's unlikely to take more than 5 shells to do the deed; BUT if you are packing big bore guns for bear or other dangerous animal defense, then just maybe you might use more than 5 shells. I recall a "bears i...

Howdy I'd second the idea of grabbing a couple boxes of factory ammo if you don't have time to really do it right for a particular rifle. Federal Premium loads are very, very, good ammo in several bullet types. Rarely necessary IMHO, since neither deer, antelope, or elk are hard to kill with 150 gra...

Howdy I tend to agree that the .38 Special is waaaay underated these days. Several years ago I took a crack at a little muley buck with a home brew .38 Spec. load consisting of a 150 grain SWC that I'd poured from wheel weights in a LEE mould. Howdy, It appears that my New Vaquero .45 is determined to consistently print left of center @ 25 yards with everything I've stuffed in it to date.
