Re: Marlin 990

Hey it was fun. How did the springs compare? I wonder if someone had replaced it with a subtle difference like wire thickness. I know guys over here run sub sonic ammo all the time and any cyclic issues they foolishly cut the spring length! What is overlooked is bolt bounce! Any slight bolt bounce a...

Re: 30-30 case failure

Well, non ferrous metals like copper and brass wont harden by rapid cooling. They are work hardened by being sized in the dies repeatedly. Only reason cast bullets can be hardened by water quenching is because they have tin and antimony in them. Pure lead wont harden either if water quenched. Macha...

Re: 30-30 case failure

That was just a light hearted idea :) But what I find strange is that Rossi and Taurus are in Brazil and make guns of that caliber and yet there is no 30-30 brass available. One more thought, can you post a pick of a fired case that didn't separate along side of a sized case? One more more thought;...

Trigger mod #2

Still not truly content with the trigger work I have done to the Marlin 990 I found the cause of my dissatisfaction. It's requirement for a disconnector system means in a sense it can feel like a three stage trigger which is frustrating. There is no creep from the seer at all, just this annoy...

What is your annealing method? And can you take a picture that shows the break more clearly. From your picture, it almost looks like it separated in a saw tooth pattern. My annealing method is highly scientific. I fire up a butane stove, grab the case by the head with a pair of pliers, call my wife...

For 25 yds that's not too bad, I do not know how thin the pattern would be from a 9mm Flobert at that range ? I never tried it , the shells were unfortunately too hard to get. Does 9mm flobert shoot 1/4 Oz GK? The RWS 9mm Flobert I last bought had 7 an narf grams of #10 which I believe is about 1/4...

5.5 green dot- check
1/4 oz of narf's- check

Pattern looks a bit thin ( not surprising with 1/4 oz)but should do fine for most critters at Back garden distances.
Yes, that's 25yds and pushing it. That was not the 5.5grn load also
At 15 it is a deadly pattern with 5.5 GRN, a good 12" wide!

I am prepared for wing shooting so #4 may get a touch thin for that but stationary targets as suggested they maybe very good.
