I've got a 336 and a Savage 99 in .30-30. It's a good timber rifle for any game. They sure seem to like them up in Alaska for a general purpose rifle. They've taken moose and bear with them. I like the "Plainsman" series by Terry C. Johnston. This series covers the US calvery and the Indian wars after the civil war. Lever guns were just coming onto the scene. Great Stuff.

Pokey, The stocks work fine. It is a hand full with full power .357 loads that's for sure. I'm getting a grip adapter to fill it a little. We'll see how that works. My first lever gun was my first rifle a Savage 99takedown .30-30. It was my dad's. My first singles action handgun was a Ruger Blackhawk .357 mag. I still have the rifle.

My Dad was a hunter and gun collector. He died when I was 2yrs old. His guns were passed down to me and I still have them all, I'm 58 now, he died when he was 27. I grew up cleaning his guns making sure they were in good shape. I have pictures of my Dad's den with guns on the wall and mounted animal...

Black Walnut is very beautiful wood and very coveted. It grow in the northest as well in the beech, birch Maple forests. People have been known to steel black walnut tree from other folks properties. I love good walnut. Some of the Euopean walnuts a very beautiful as well.
