I shoot a model 71 and a great mid-range load is 30grs. of R-7 with a 200 gr. Hornady bullet. This will kill deer at woods ranges and is great to shoot all year. This is a good load for people who do not cast their own bullets.

I have been shooting this bullet for several years. I like wheel weights mixed with soft lead for target work. This will make bullet weigh a little more. 7-8grs. of Unique powder or 6-6.5 titegroup work real well. I shoot it in a ruger redhawk and a smith 29. They shoot very good.

I have a savage 99 in 358. I shoot 225 and 250 bullets. 3031 is a good choice for top velocities but I like 4320. It has less recoil and more than enough speed. I've had time to look at my loading notes. For my plinking load I use 20grs. of R-7 under a 280gr. cast bullet. For a hunting load I drop 30grs. of R-7. I do use 30-40 brass necked up and blown out. This will give you a very short neck but this has never gave me any trouble.

I shoot 4064,4320,4895 and R-15 in my Savage 99F. 150&165gr. bullets work very well. Don't worry about the fastest load, but the ones that shoot best. Most 99's should group .5 to .75 inches at 50 yards or better with mid-velocity loads. With a good 165gr. load, you can handle anything on 4 leggs.

I have been shooting a 410 for many years. It has ben great fun shooting small game with it. I do hand load for it to save money, you get like 20 boxes of ammo from a 25lb bag of shot! If you shoot the 3" shell it is a good killer at closer ranges. It can also shoot slugs for bigger critters.
