Re: Blown 1892 Winchester .38WCF

Just one more thought to put into the mix - who knows anything about "secondary explosive effect"? In theory it can be caused in cartridges loaded with light charges of smokeless powder. The primer flash does not ignite the powder column instantly because it is lying on the bottom of the c...

Re: OT: A bit more about that Krico

Well mate, it is still for sale.
There is a 270 improved and a 308 with Manlicher style stocks on Used Guns as well at present.
That 22 is still the pick of the bunch though.

Marlin Bullseye

Just got home from a few days shooting and noticed the bullseye had fallen out of my Marlin 336.
Local gun shop has no idea where to get another one - can any of you guys give me some idea?
I am in Australia, so that may complicate things a little.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Pop.

Chris, just read the rest of your post. I have started reloading my 38-55 and am still working on what is best for it. I am not hunting with it, just plinking really so my loads are moderate ones that I also run through my old 1894 (made in 1895). I will be stepping up a bit soon for the newer 1894 ...

Well done on the model 94 collection there. Your Legendary Frontiersman looks to have some well grained timber on it. I have one as well and it has a great burl on the rear timber. You will enjoy shooting the 38-55, especially now that there seems to be a supply of brass available again here in Aust...

Hobie, I was thinking of trying some polymer tipped projectiles - like the Hornady v-max style. I am quite familiar with the story of not loading pointed spitzer style bullets into tube magazines - but the point of my question is that I have been told that the Remington 25 has a tube magazine, but t...

OT - Remington Model 25 in 25-20

A few months ago I passed on a nice Remington 25 in 32-20 because I wanted one in 25-20. Now one has come along but I have one question that I still have not really got an answer to. So can someone help me? Can I load pointed bullets into the mag? I have been told that the cartridges do not stack no...

Well mate I am sitting here in Australia reading your post and my response is that there are people here who are anti gun and others that are not - pretty much like many societies in the world I guess. I live in New South Wales and some positive news here has been that the State Government has appro...

Mate, I have a 22 Hornet made by BRNO a ZKW 465 manufactures in 1949. It is a great little rifle and the calibre is very popular here in Australia. One thing you could do is load some 50 grain projectiles into your Hornet. Over here the Hornet is used with 52-55 grain projectiles often and it is cap...

Hi Swampman, Great rifles. Can I ask a question about the 1894 22magnum? I found one here in Sydney in mint condition that I bought for a good mate of mine who lives out in the Australian bush miles from any gun shops. He has had continual feeding problems with it and has come to the conclusion from...

Mossberg 30-30

Can I ask for a little advise from you guys. I have found a Mossberg 30-30 which I believe is a Model 472. It has 20" barrel with full mag and has a saddle ring. Straight rear stock and a metal butt plate as well I think. So this looks like a Marlin - but are they any good??? Any feedback would...

Well Done

I rarely post on this forum. I read a lot but post little. Now I am just expressing my opinion that this post was totally wrong. You guys have border problems in the States like we do in Australia, but these people are humans, they are members of families and are in desperate situations. Why else wo...

Update on that 38-55 that is on the market. The price is AUD950 with dies and ammo. Amount of ammo and type of dies is not specified. Original box comes with the gun. Dixie Gunworks Scope

Can anyone tell me if the brass scopes that Dixie sell require the barrel to be drilled and tapped? Am concidering fitting one to an 1873 Winchester with Octagon barrel. Do the mount to the side to allow empty cases to clear???
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Pop

I have been reading the comments on this post and decided to put in my two cents worth. I am going for a Winchester Model 1892 in 32-20 or 25-20. The mag tubes are a smaller diameter than the barrels in these two calibres only. The front magazine retaining band is a half band on all 1892's in the sm...
