You might consider a 3x9 Nikon Prostaff. I have three of these now and absolutely love em. $150. The optics are the best for the $$ hands down IMHO.
If you really want the higher magnification capability, then I'd look at a Weaver.

Congress is moving quickly to pass a $1.2 trillion Global Warming Tax that is based on unfounded science and could cripple our economy. A vote is expected before summer. I just signed a petition and am asking you to join me. Please go here: http://www.grassfire.org/106/petiti...=16350755&NID=1 I...

I support the idea of lever rifles for HD/SD, and like Griff, would rather have a true rifle chambering in the lever, and handgunS for interior use. Not that there is anything wrong with having a secondary lever rifle chambering a handgun round, of course. :) Funny, I just got thoroughly overruled ...

new marlin 444 twist rate
The older 444's are 1-38 twist the newer ones that aren't micro groove are 1-20 . Which will help stablelize longer bullets. Either is plenty big enough for what most people hunt. The plain fact is that they are just fun to shoot. A guy really needs both. Well, I was not aware that they made this c...

This is just common sense if you ask me. I am preaching to the choir here of course but the law needs to be on the side of the potential victim, not the $%&# criminals. Err on the side of the victim is the way it should be. Now, having said that and knowing nothing of the details of that drunken...

The 45-70 is much much more versitile than the 444. Nothing wrong with the 444 - its a great cartridge and you can use up to 270 and sometimes 300 grain bullets with it - depending on if your rifle will shoot the heavier bullets. The reason is the twist rate of the 444 - which is too slow for the he...

leverguns for self defense
Nothing wrong with a good levergun for self defense IMHO. Since you have a Marlin 336 and like it, then I would strongly suggest a Marlin 94CS in .357 Mag. But load it up with 38 Speical +P hollow points (125 Grain). I'd like you to use a pistol caliber in case you need to put it to work inside your...

Well, I have a Marlin 336 in 35 Rem and I have some loaded 356 ammo. I just went out to the shop and inserted a couple of 356 rounds into the mag of this rifle. They lifted and fed just fine as-is.
