Re: OT - . 44 Pistol Home Defense Loading
11.0 grains unique, Fed 150 primer, 44 mag case and hard LFC under a Rem or hdy 180 jhp gives 1250 fps from 4 in 629 (chrono'd). Excellent accuracy, controllable and likely significantly less penetration than a heavier slower load. 9.1 grains 231 , Fed 150 primer, 44 mag case and hard LFC under a Sp...

Re: Steel and metal targets online
Highly recommend metaltargets.com, the 500 brinnel high velocity round swingers version. Our range went to these for the pistol and rifle range. The high velocity plates are bolted on, and different size plates are available. Ya do need to replace the attachment bolts with hardened bolts. The plates...

Primarily a shooter, reloader. Speculating about hunting is used for rationalizing more firearms needed/wanted. Usually am deer hunting every year, except back went south this year. One of these years might actually have enougfh points for a bear license. Never been bear hunting, but got the 307, 44...

Tried a box of the Rem factory 180 gn jsp's, which seem to have replaced their 180 grain jhp loads. 2100 fps from 16 in Marlin, and 1900 fps from 7 1/2 Ruger Bisley. Hdy factory 180 xtps are also pretty hot if memory serves, but not blistering like that batch of Remingtons. The Rem 180 jhp likely wo...

william-thanks for the real world results of the .307 Win. Haven't hunted yet with the one purchased last year, but plan to this up coming season. It is extremely accurate with Speer 130,150 and 170 flat noses and 748. Am thinking a Marlin 308mx is equilavent, if the barrel lenght was 20 inches. Was...

BenT-if they're not overpricing it, ya outa jump on it. Am very pleased with the 6 1/2 in blued version owned. Real good with lighter lead loads, or hot rodded jhp's up into standard 45 acp power range. All that in a slim light 6 1/2 inch barrelled revolver. Looked for one for years. Ever been to Jo...

BenT-am in Spooner. Work takes me pretty far south on 53 about 4 times a year. Usually the trips are long enough to cover the waiting period, after visiting gun shops in Eau Claire. Haven't seen a lot of deals in Mercantile, for the past couple years. Shouldn't have mentioned the the single six in C...

Am certainly no exspurt, but the very first thing a newly acquired lever gets is a front and rear site alignment. Meaning the front and rear site are centered on the top of barrel and/or receiver, before sighting in. Nothing more frustrating to be on windage wise at 25 yards, and off by several inch...

Have no where near the experience of Charles, but am mostly convinced his observations are spot on, with one specific exception. The specific exception would be the heavy short (essentially bull barrels) barreled versions. It seems the 307, Marlin 444 outfitter and 45-70 guide gun owned, are largely...

iceman got it. They take up more case capacity and have a longer bearing length (dramatically longer than traditional bullets of the same weight in 44 qand 45). Not only is copper lighter than lead, the hollow points can be HUGE. Would suggest looking at load data for 300 grainers. Does Barnes have ...

Might be worth it to read Speer's, and others takes on loading the 32-20 for the newer Marlins. Just started loading for A newer Marlin 32-20, and it will not chamber rounds loaded out near or to the listed max COL. Had to trim back Starline brass to be able to seat HDY or Speer 100 100 grain jhps t...

Am using Fed Large Rifle Mag primers and 748 in the 30-30 and 307 with jacketed bullets. Very pleased with the velocitys and accuracy. 748 meters exceptionally well, and with slightly less than max loads am not weighing every charge. While mag primers may not be needed to reliably set off the charge...

The Marlin 1894 seem to be very picky about not exceeding COL. When i compare a Win 94 in 44mag to the the Marlin version, the chamber entrance on the Win appears to have been beveled. It feeds hp's/swc that the the Marlin chokes on. Have had two Marlin 1894 357 levers, the newer one was a very pick...

Have had very good results with 748 and Fed Mag primers in limited 30-30 testing. Also used 748 and Fed mag primers for 307 loads, with excellent results (130,150 and 170 speer fnsp). Speer 13 lists 748, with mag primers. However they seem to have mixed up the 30-30 130 and 150 load listings with 74...

375 Win, 255 Barnes favorite load
Does anyone have any favorite loads for a Marlin 375, using Barnes 255 grain jfp's ? Does anyone have any experience with hunting, using the Barnes 255 grainer? Is it worth the effort to develop a good load?
Thanks, have a fair selection of powders on hand.
