375 Win, 255 Barnes favorite load

Post by cecil »

Does anyone have any favorite loads for a Marlin 375, using Barnes 255 grain jfp's ? Does anyone have any experience with hunting, using the Barnes 255 grainer? Is it worth the effort to develop a good load?

Thanks, have a fair selection of powders on hand.

The Barnes bullets work. I like RL-7 but one can use 4198 or 3031 or H322 or ???. Yes, it is worth the effort. :?: It is ALWAYS worth the effort if only for the learning experience.

I load that bullet with 34 grs of Norma 200 for my Win 94 BB. It goes out with some 2000 - 2050 fps and groups about 2 inch at 100 yards. I have not managed to shoot any game with it yet, so I can't tell anything about the effect on game.

255 gr barnes

Post by dgr416 »

I have had hard time finding any 255 gr barnes bullets.I use aa1680 powder in all my 375 winchester loads.I got 2400fps with 220 gr hornady and 2300 with speer 235 gr pointed bullets I loaded single shot. They by the way shot 1" groups in my winchester. It barely likes the 220 gr Hornady bullets shooting 3" groups.I think the idea of the 270 gr hornady cut off.I have even loaded 300 gr FMJ bullets with 27 grs of aa1680.I used them single shot.I have had 4 big bore 375s all top eject Winchesters .I still want a side eject one.I have scopes on both of the ones ones I kept. The 255 gr barnes is probally alot better bullet than the 220 gr hornady for larger game. There have been a few grizzleys shot with the 375 winchester with the old 250 gr factory load.It does not kick.I like it alot better than the 375 jdj I have in my contented which by the way distroyed it.I want to get a 375 winchester barrel for my contender alot better round for the contender than the 375 jdj in my opinion.
