Both Rugers are 32 H&R mags. The 4 3/4 in barrel one I've had since August of last year . I 've had some problems with the fixed sights. I sent it back to Ruger this winter to have the front blade readjusted.
A few weeks ago I ran across this 6 1/2 in barrel one. I had to buy it because it is the set up I originaly wanted , but couldn't find one it good shape.
Now hopefully tomorrow the weather will cooperate and I'll see which one I can shoot better. I can't afford to keep both . So one must go after the shootout.
The one thing I noticed is that the one with the adjustable sight has the full size grips. The other one has the short grip and thinner at that.
Range report , first of all I SUCK at shooting revolvers. Now that I admitted it ,it's the first step in getting better.
Sorry no picks , wife has the camera today. I was shooting offhand at paperplates at 25 yards. With either gun I would hit the target only twice when shooting 3 shot strings.
I am definitly having problems with the bigger grips on the adjustable sight model. My nieghbor stopped by and we took turns shooting. He shot the adjustable sight one better and I shot the fixed better than him. So I ended my range session with no resolution.
Well late today I decided to swap grip frames . I put the smaller grip frame on the adjustable sight model and went out back of the house and shot the best groups I've shot all day. I always put all 3 shot groups on the paper plate.
So now I'll give it a couple days and see if I can duplicate that shooting session. I'll take pictures at the next session. Then I'll have to figure out what configuration I'll be keeping.
OK here is the new configuration ,short grip on adj. sight frame.
Here is how it shot at 25 yards off hand. 3 shot groups.
Now this is the best I could do . I don't know if it is good or fair . I'm not a pistol guy. But I do know the smaller grip fits my hand better. So those who shoot pistols let me know if this is acceptable for this pistol.
I know I use the expensive targets. In fact I caught the wife trying to use them to feed the kids with. Any way this little test has been alot of fun , but like I said I can't keep both. In fact I was informed the money I used to buy the second pistol with was slated for a new vaccum cleaner. So I'm getting a little heat from the Chief of Staff. Otherwise I would test these guns all summer.
So the things I've learned is that the small grip fits my hand. I can shoot the adj. sights better . Better yet with the small frame. But I really don't target shoot much. I mainly want a packing pistol for in the woods and around the farm for dispatching small vermon like skunks and such. I noticed the the 6 1/2 inch barrel isn't the handiest. If it was a 5 1/2 barrel the decision would be easier. So I'm still not sure what I'm keeping yet. But I'm feeling the heat to make a choice soon!
Well I made up my mind and decided to keep the fixed sight model in it's original configuration. The 6 1/2 in barrel just isn't as handy to pack around. I would like to keep them both but that just isn't fesable right now.
