Pre-64 mod 94 - rear sight removal

I've been trying for a couple of days to remove the rear sight on a pre-64 Model 94, and it simply won't budge. I'm trying to drift it out from left-to-right, and I'm whackin it pretty good. How hard should these things be to remove?

BTW, the front sight came out REAL easy.

Re: Lyman #17 for Model 94?

I'd just drift the existing sight out, and measure the with my dial calipers. If it's .375", then the #17 will fit. You'll want the shortest possible version , unless you've got a tang sight on the rear with enough adjustment to allow a higher front post. You want the new sight to be ¾" f...

Lyman #17 for Model 94?

I have a Model 94 with a front ramp site.

Will a Lyman #17 fit on the site ramp? If so, which one is the most appropriate? I'm thinking it would probably be the AHB (0.404") or the AMI (0.494").

I've kinda halfway decided to take the rifle to the range (with some fresh ammo, of course). My dad recently passed away, and I inherited his 1957 (228xxx) Model 94 chambered in 30-30. Some interesting observations: 0) This gun has never had a round chambered. 1) It came with the original store receipt (Sears), and was purchased for the hefty sum of $79.95 along with a cleaning kit ($2.49),...

I have a H001T with a Pedersoli tang sight and on a cheap rest, I can put 10 rounds into a 2-inch circle at 50 yards. Offhand , the grouping moves out to about 4 inches at the same distance.
