Effective Accurate Range of a 357 mag
What is the effective accurate range of a firle chambered for 357 mag? I'm considering getting a Big Boy 357 and need to consider how tall a tang sight would need to be.

I guess it would depend on the size of your chosen target. My Rossi will shoot a tube full into about two inches at 50 yards. My eyesight limits my range more than anything, but I am comfortable with shooting a deer out to at least 75 yards. Others will have a longer range as the rifles are very capable past 100 yards.
I'm good to 135 with iron sights with my trapper. Past that I have no experience, but it's still carrying more velocity/energy at 135 from my rifle than from my revolvers at 50. I'd have no qualms about shooting a deer at 50 with my revolvers.

I shoot regularly at 100 with open sights and with the aid of a bench can do 2.5" with my handloads and I'm sure a better handload would yield a better result from my 1894 cb.
With the right load and a scope I'm sure I could possibly get close to MOA.

.357 mag in the FA revolver is certainly accurate to 200 meters in IHMSA competition. A carbine would probably equal or exceed velocities from the FA revolver.
I was looking at a Hornady ad this afternoon for their new .357 mag ammo. I noted that the muzzle velocity for the 18" carbine was about 400 fps higher than the mv for the revolver, but at 100 yards had dropped to same as the revolver at the muzzle, and the velocity at 150 was equal to the revolver's velocity at 50 yards. I think a .357 revolver is barely adequate for deer under 50 yards, so the carbine would be barely adequate at 150.
