If I had to choose only one lever gun, it would be my 1970 444. :-)

Re: Which sight should I use?

I am fond of the tang sights too but I haven't seen one yet for a Marlin 1894. Also I carry the rifle right there where the tang sight would mount.

Re: Which sight should I use?

Thanks for all of the info men. I am seriously considering, after looking at all of these sights, the Skinner Express sight. It covers the length of the receiver is fully adjustable and has many sizes of apertures available for it. Just the look and function that I am after. Happy Thanksgiving!

Which sight should I use?

I have a Marlin 1894 .357 that I had a scope on but it just didn't look to appealing so I have removed it. Question : Which rear sight would you mount? I have a blank where the rear sight goes and would rather install a side mount or a tang mount sight. Thanks!

Re: Now that the silliness of the 4 gun thread has passed.....

I haven't read this entire thread but has anyone mentioned the Savage 24 in .223 Rem/12 ga. combo? And to complement it a nice revolver in .357 To me that rifle shotgun combo could put a lot of meat on the table from just one gun.

Re: My 3 Leverguns

Yes nothing but woods off of the balcony, mostly red and white oaks with a pine or two thrown in. It is windy and rainy here today and most of the leaves have now fallen. Pete, I struggled with that handle but the contacts just do not work for me so if I want to hunt with a lever this is what I must...

Re: My 3 Leverguns

I would like to add to them a straight stocked 336 .35 rem, a 45/70 of some sort, and a 1894M in 22mag. Thanks for the kind words.

My 3 Leverguns

After seeing pics of many of your beautiful levers I finally had some time (home recuperating from hernia surgery) to take a pic of my levers. Over the past couple of years I bought and sold a few and this is what I ended up with. A 1960 Marlin 336 SC Deluxe in .35 Rem, A 1972 or 1973 Winchester 942...

There is an M8 4X pistol scope EER model, but the one I purchased is a riflescope with 4.5 " of eye relief. Thanks for the pics and advice.

proper scope mount height for a marlin 336

I want to scope my marlin 30/30 and I want to mount it as low as possible. (maybe a business cards width between scope and barrel) The front and rear sights have been removed and filled along with an original flat hammer offset spur. I have purchased a Leupold M8 4X 28mm (enroute from gunbroker) and...

Re: Factory hunting loads for an 1894 .357

I just purchased this lever less than a week ago and I cannot believe that I waited this long to buy one. The weight, balance and lack of recoil (38 special) is amazing. Haven't shot any .357's yet. The guy I bought it from (off of GB) said he hunted hogs with it a few times then put it in his safe ...

I just ordered the Marbles "Bullseye" sight from Brownells. Thanks for all the information and help. I believe I will go with the Williams FP or a Skinner for the 336 30/30.

Factory hunting loads for an 1894 .357

Has anyone had any experience experimenting with factory .357 ammo and hunting whitetail deer before? Which ammo do you recommend when it comes to performance, accuracy, feeding etc. Has anyone tried Hornadys Leverevolution? Without trying it it would seem to me that it would have good accuracy but ...

AJMD429, all I can say is WOW thanks for all of the research and pics and time you put into that thread. I will read it later and digest it all. Question: for older eyes (I am 51) I can still see fairly clear at distance but up close and arms length is fuzzy at best, is it better to have a longer di...

Which rear sight for an 1894?

I just received my new (used) Marlin 1894 357/38 pre-safety model that I have been hunting high and low for and when I opened the box the rear sight had broke in shipment. I am lucky that was all that was damaged since it came all the way from Hawaii to NC. ((My biggest fear about buying rifles on t...

Would one of you provide some manufacture history IE: Dates of original 1886 model, dates or Browning 1886 and also The Winchester extra light which appears to be made in Japan too. Thanks for all of the info and the beautiful pics.

Thanks men for all of the info. I must admit that I am liking the 1886 and I guess you guys are referring to the Browning Miroku? I can't afford the Winchester. I had a B-92 before and the quality was very good. I only hunt Whitetail here (NC) but I could be persuaded to go on an Elk, or Moose hunt ...
