The problem has to be that the 'bad' heating elements have increased their resistance where they are connected...Most likely where they are crimped into the circuit some corrosion has squinched down on the flow of electrons....You need to go over it with a good ohm meter.....

The fire lapping kits that have a succession of bullets pre-charged with abrasives are mighty expensive..'Zat what you used or did you add the abrasive yourself..? ...Since you mentioned subsequent hand lapping the barrel I am guessing that you made your own fire-lapping bullets....?.....

Sorry Pokey.I am having difficulties,wasnt trying to tease'ya. This rifle was in bad shape and now it works nicely and looks good..Didnt try to doll it up to win approval but on other hand what I did do was rather noteworthy..Had to weld in 12 holes in the barrel that had been scope mounting holes.....

Thanks Guys, youre a great crowd of levergunners.. Measurements would help but I dont really need'em.Since I am making all the parts there is no concern to be interchangeable with any authentic parts......... I know the overall length of the .45-60 cartridge and can change the dimensions of the 1873...

Thanks kimwcook ...I feel guilty I based the 1873 project on a used receiver rather than building the receiver from barstock ..So to get that bit of redemption , figure I'll build receiver for an 1876 ...reasonable proposition as I cant find a used 1876 receiver within my humble budget...and 'sides ...

More like a sharp chisel cutting across the grain of wood..Brass is nice stuff to work...Cuts clean and cuts straight as long as you get the right sized bite..
