Re: one reason to lose weight
Congratulations on dropping the extra weight.
As an adult I have been as heavy as 250 and as light as 155. When I am injury free and running or cycling daily my weight stays about 185. When I am in recovery mode and can not put in the miles I balloon up a bit.

Re: Some thoughts on shooting with iron sights
Great topic Kirk, I grew up shooting a BB gun with open sights. We would shoot almost everyday. When I progressed to larger rifles I almost exclusively used scopes. I continued to use scoped rifles until about 10 years ago. I started shooting with friends who competed with metallic sighted rifles I ...

I agree completely with OlyinAZ.

I dont own any truly old firearms. My oldest would be a Smith and Wesson Victory Model 38. It was shipped in early 1943.
My oldest rifle is a 1962 marlin 39A.
I love looking at the photos some of you guys post of beautiful antique rifles.

For production knives I am happy with Case. There are many better knives available, but no better company for me to support. I dont know enough about heavy rifles to choose a caliber, but I'd probably look to 458 and up. From the little that can be seen that is one nice looking rifle. I'd like to see a better view of the bolts and how all that works.

TC contender carbine, There are some light weight tapered barrels out there that get the weight down. A friend of mine set up one in 204 ruger with a light barrel and shortened stock. It is light and handy, probably closer to 5 and half pounds. It can easily be set up with open or peep sights. Calib...

That was more of a problem with shooting just before dark and less of a problem with the cartridge. The shot went thr...

Yep, .30-30 is one that is under-appreciated. I just heard a story at the range by an 'expert'. He told why he no longer uses a 30-30 for hogs. He shot and hit a hog 3 times and the bullets all bounced off. The bullets didnt even leave a mark on the hog. He watched them bounce off the hog. He then k...
