Re: Could the .327 be the "new" .32-20?
Doesn't the weight of the bullet have something to do with bolt thrust ? Heavier the bullet the more the bolt thrust. Physics says no. Force = pressure (pounds / square inch) * area (square inches) Bullet weight only comes into play to the extent that it effects pressure, and guns are designed arou...

Re: a little John Moses Browning love please
I think he'd put Einstein to shame by what he created. I doubt that any firearm design, no matter how great, (as JMB's designs clearly were,) can compare with the singlehanded overturning of an idea that had never been questioned. Before Einstein, every single human being that ever lived thought th...

Re: Could the .327 be the "new" .32-20?
The diameter to use is the inside of the case head, not the rim diameter. Kind of like a hydraulic jack-the area of the base does not determine the lifting capacity, only the inside diameter where the pressure is located. Bruce But the surface applying force to the gun is the entire rear of the cas...

Re: Could the .327 be the "new" .32-20?
Remember that the structure of the gun must resist force, not pressure. Force = pressure * area, and area = pi * (r^2), where r = rim diameter / 2. So, for the .327 Federal we get: ((.375/2)^2 * pi) * 45,000 psi = 4970 pounds and for the .357 Magnum, ((.440/2)^2 * pi) * 35,000 psi = 5322 pounds So, ...

Re: OT - Is the .32 Mag REALLY a good Defensive Gun?
When we're taking about the suitability of a cartridge for self-defense, there's really a bunch of stuff going on, and it all needs to be considered. Lo, these many years ago, before I spent some time living by Uncle Samuel's rules, I lived and acted in places and ways that I would not now consider ...

Re: Semi-OT: Treating gun leather
What about Brooks Proofide? The Brooks Saddle Company has been selling the stuff for about 100 years for use on its' hand-made tensioned-leather bicycle saddles. It's pretty wet in Ol' Blighty... It works... I use both their saddles and their goop. Obenauf's (made for treating firefighter's leather ...

My A** Rides In Navy Equipment!
Interservice ribbing aside, good on your son! We all, every one of us, owe a debt to our country just for the advantages we have by virtue of being born here. Your son has made a substantial downpayment on that debt. He deserves every bit of praise that he will surely get. As proud as you are now, a...

I've got no problem with the method...
But... The number of people exonerated by DNA evidence after conviction has to give pause... Execution of the innocent is murder, pure and simple. To me, this is the basic question: What number of wrongly executed innocents is acceptable? To me, that number is zero. That is my only objection to capi...

Cat lover... and I agree.
One of the best cats I've ever owned was Oliver (as in Twist), a young stray that I fed one evening, and who decided that living with us was a better deal than sleeping under cars in the parking lot. He was a wonderful pet. Affectionate to a fault, litter-box trained in one day (I assume by watching...
