OT - just got an e-mail from San Diego, Kalifornia
Our son, Tim, will be a resident of the People's Republic for the next several weeks. Thank God he's gonna be at Camp Pendleton in basic training for the US Marine Corps. It's hard to believe our "baby" is now on his way to becoming a leatherneck. Seems like just yesterday we were wondering if he was going to make it, born with the cord 'round his neck in a primitive hospital in Brazil. God pulled him through and he placed VERY well in all his pre-enlisment testing.
Prayers for him and the rest of our armed forces are greatly appreciated.

My prayers go out to him.
During boot camp he's gonna' wish he was still wrapped by that cord, but at the end of it...he's gonna' be a MARINE !!!
OOHRAH!!!

...and I don't think he even knows it...Walks around with a half-assed grin...If he feels fear, he don't show it. Just rides into hell and back again.

Muscles Are Required Intelligence Not Essential. Sorry, as a former Army soldier, I couldn't help but have a little inter-force teasing. I am proud of all who volunteer and serve, and I trained alongside Marines a couple of times. We may have picked on each other, but we would all stand up and even fight for each other. May your son be returned to you whole and healthy at the end of his enlistment.

Congrats to you and your son. I gotta tell you, if the kid gets the chance to ACTUALLY NOTICE the weather, he'll see why we live here in Kalifornia.
Tell him to stay out of the SD bars. This time of year is absolutely beautiful. Three months from now he'd be sweating his head off.
Wish him the best, from an old Army guy.

Hey Paul I will be down at the recruit Depot starting on the 28th I doubt I will run into him. But If you let me know what Company he is in I can at least let you know where in the training cycle he is.

He's fluent in two - English and Spanish, and can understand Portuguese quite well. He's thinking about making it a career, we'll see what happens after boot camp...Cliff wrote:Prayers and Congradulations for you and Tim. Sure hope it likes him and he likes it. It will be a learning experience that is certain. How many lanquages can he handle. Being as he has some extra lanquage skills it may help him down the road in the service. Wish him the best.

My A** Rides In Navy Equipment!
Interservice ribbing aside, good on your son!
We all, every one of us, owe a debt to our country just for the advantages we have by virtue of being born here.
Your son has made a substantial downpayment on that debt.
He deserves every bit of praise that he will surely get.
As proud as you are now, and deservedly so, it's nothing compared to the pride you (and he) will feel when he passes in review on Graduation Day.
From this squid, I send your son a hearty "Semper Fi!"

If he has language skills, he can get into a "Lettered Company/Command". Jeremy knows what I'm talking about. Communications Security, etc. Good advancement opportunities in that field.
I was a Cryptologic Technician in the Navy and we had Marines with us on some of our bases (i.e., Naval Security Group Command, Kami Seya, Japan -- Marine Detachment Company K).
He might not think it at the time but he'll have a good time in Boot Camp.
As I tell every young person going into the Armed Forces -- "Do what you're told to do when you're told to do it" and you should have no problems. Pass that along to him if you can.

He may eventually get to the huge 29 Palms Marine Air Ground Combat Training Center since it's a mtn & desert sandbox.AmBraCol wrote:Our son, Tim, will be a resident of the People's Republic for the next several weeks.
