I always carry a knife, have for the past 40+ years. Also carry a Leatherman of one size or another. Current daily carry is a Charlie May fixed blade of 3 inches, at work it is in my bag, Knives of Alaska folder in my pocket. I refuse to fly anywhere now so being without a knife is a non-issue.

There is a stretch of Highway 40 goin south out of Hinton Alberta that looks just like the highway/mountain pic. Thought for a moment there that was where ya were. Not many elk there but lots of sheep.

I never thought of glass bedding a levergun. Facinating idea that I think I will try on my Win 94 30/30. (No its not an older gun) It has some wood to metal issues....among others.

Thanks for the info folks. I suspected that particular bullet was initially meant for the 444 Marlin. Good to know it will work in 44 mag too. I got the little Marlin as a camp gun with some hunting in mind as well.

Most everyone here uses bolts in 30-06, 7mm mag, 300+ mags and the various WSM's. See the occassional semi and single shot ie Ruger #1. If you see a levergun, it is in my hands or my sons.

I'm torn between the Win 94 in 44 mag I have and the Marlin in 444 I want. Of course, my son who shoots would have the Win 94 30/30 and would let me borrow it now and again.
Likely the 44 mag would win out as it is arguably more versatile than the 444 for my use.

I'm leaning towards my Win 94 44 mag. Be an interesting challenge as I'm hunting on bald prairie this year for mule deer buck and doe. My son is going to hunting the same WMU for mule deer buck as well with a Win 94 30/30.
Gotta admit though, my 270 WSM is sighted in just in case lol.
