My wife will be thrilled with me having another expensive hobby. :D It really doesn't have to be expensive. I'll put it this way, it can be as expensive as you want it to be. It costs $14.00 to take the technician class exam. You can study online for free. As a tech you can get on the air wi...

OT - How many HAMs here?
I noticed that board member "don Thomas" has a call sign, KA6HDW, as part of his signature line.
How many other amateur radio operators do we have on this board?
I just got my technician license last November. Working towards my General license now. Hope to have it soon.

I have to agree with Charles about the whole fence thing. For a fence to work you'd basically have to build something like the Berlin wall from the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific, and then staff it like the wall was. If we were ever going to have adequate border security I'm afraid it would take batt...

Quinn, It looks like you missed the memo. I've been appointed official tester of all .348 Winchester ammo sold in North America since January 1st. You need to send me ten percent of your new ammunition (by volume) for evaluation purposes. Send me a PM for the shipping address. There is no charge for...

I have a limited experience on historic models, but within my realm of experience, I think the Model 94 in .30-30 is THE one. :) I think that FWiedner hits the nail right on the head. I have a couple of other levers that I love (Model 71, 86 in .33 WCF, Model 64, Browning 92 in .357 Magnum) and oth...

Need Help - Winchester Bolt Peep Sight
Last week I picked up my new (to me) Winchester Model 71. It's a 1936 production DeLuxe, but it's pretty tired. I'm going to be getting it in to get some work done on it soon. It was missing the bolt peep sight. After looking around a bit I managed to find a partial Winchester 98a. As for as I can t...

JimT just posted the Mossberg buyers guide, looks like they have a tang safety, but, I hope I'm wrong..... They have a tang safety. There are two different buyers guides that you can download from the Mossberg website. One of them is 108 pages long. The 108 page one has an article about the .30-30 ...

Thank you very much. I wanted to make sure that I didn't need to use an intermediate forming die or anything, and what pitfalls to watch out for. Your advice will be very helpful and it's much appreciated. By the way, it's going to be used in a Browning Model 65 repro. The reloads will be used for p...

why not just buy ,218 bee brass? Good question. I have purchased 300 rounds of .218 Bee brass along with 150 loaded rounds. That was all that I could afford right now to get me started. But when I was in one of the gunshops that I was scouring for ammo (yes, I know you can find it online too) I ran...

Forming brass for .218 Bee
Has anyone here ever formed .218 Bee brass using .25-20 or .32-20 cases? According to a couple of different manuals that I have you can use either one for a parent case. If you have made this conversion, did you have to use any intermediate forming dies, anneal the case necks, etc? Any information w...

A thought about .348 brass.....
Last week I sent an email to Winchester suggesting that, since .348 brass is perpetually sold out everywhere, they should either; make their limited runs of .348 brass more often, or make larger runs of it when they do. I received a helpful reply stating that; even though I probably wasn't aware of ...
