Cimarron Model P load testing

Post by _n4z_ »

Cimarron Model P range day

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Went out and did some laod testing with the new .357 Model P this morning.

Tried 4 different loads as well as some factory store bought.

The factory fodder was Winchester 125gr .38spl +p SJHP. They shot well enough around 2" 6 shots @ 7yrds, standing unsupported.

Handload 1
158gr LaserCast SWC
6.8gr Unique
6 @ 7yrds
standing unsupported.
3+" group

Handload 2
158gr Speer LHP/SWC
3.5gr Bullseye
6 @ 7 yrds
standing unsupported
3" group ( I jerked the last shot - First 5 were @ 1-1/2")

Handload 3
158gr Speer LHP/SWC
3.8gr Bullseye
6 @ 7 yrds
standing unsupported
1-1/2" group

Handload 5
158gr Remington SJHP
7.3gr Unique
5 @ 7yrds
standing unsupported
2" group

And of course, pic of the good targets.

Not bad. Not bad at all.

Here's a .38 Spcl load you might try, I've gotten excellent results from it.

I actually loaded that ammo before I was married and shot it back in '05. Good load.

Here's a .357 Load that might work for you, nothing special but try 13.5grs of 2400 under a Keith SWC (Lyman 358429 or equivalent ), size to .358", standard SP primer, tight case tension and crimp.

Joe's load is a well tried old standard.

I am buying a Uberti 38 special. Shot some reloads at the range and got 1" for six at Seven yards after a little sight setting familiarization.

AN ACTUAL UBERTI SAA IN 38SPL ??!!!
I TRIED TO GET MARIA UBERTI TO BUILD ME ONE BUT THEY ENDED UP PRESENTING ME WITH A REALLY FANCY ENGRAVED-TO-ME 357MAG. IT DOES SHOOT GREAT, EASILY OUTSHOOTING MY NM RUGER 357. BUT IT WAS NO 38SPL DUE TO THE FACT THE ITALIAN GUMMIT SAID NO ,IT WAS A "MILITARY" CALIBER AND THEY'D HAVE TO START A WHOLE NEW CHAPTER IN THEIR NATIONAL GUN COMPUTER RECORD FOR SINGLE ACTION 38SPL GUNS TO ACCOMODATE IT.

Terry - it is an honest to goodness 38 SPL. imported by Stoeger's Tricky though. You have to stop it short of the cylinder lockup to eject the cases easily and the trigger can come a little forward to lock the cylinder it is in great shape and has top strap the shape of the one Paco blew up in his book. I would appreciate any other knowledge you have of it. Promises to be very accurate. What I used were just commercial reloads with mixed brass but all of the last six were on the 1' square. It says Uberti and Stoeger on the barrel.

YEP, THEY MUSTA DECIDED TO MAKE SOME CHANGES. NEAR AS I CAN RE-CALL THIS WAS AROUND 18 YEARS AGO WHEN I ASKED FOR A UBERTI 38SPL SAA. THE 357 THEY ENDED UP PRESENTING TO ME SHOOTS LIKE A MILLION BUCKS AND HAS AROUND 7,000 ROUNDS THROUGH IT AS WE SPEAK, IF MEMORY SERVES.

those +p's should be fine the guns have just as much meat in em as 357 and +p's are lower pressure rounds standard 357.
