Joe; OK all the family folks told me to go get a big strong, young, hunter to help pack out the meat and you are at the top of the list! Tomorrow, I will call NRA Whittington Center to confirm lodging, how to get game out of back country, local meat processing plants, expected temperatures, food, et...

Lever gun elk hunt
Finally, I drew an elk hunt at Whittington Center in New Mexico! I have 5 daya in early January to get within .45-90 range of a cow elk.
So excited about this that I amy even load up something special for the hunt.

My Winchester/Miroku 1886 takedown .45-90 seems to be plenty accurate. It is still like new, but I doubt that I will live long enough to shoot it enough to make the TD connection loose. I have read that the Winchester TD can be adjusted if it does ever loosen up, but I will not worry about that unti...

86er; My pre-64 Winchester featherweight .308 must be well broken in, as the 3 position safety works easily. The only time it was difficult to operate was when it had sand in it and a good cleaning took care of that. I like the control the 3 position provides and have learned to take it off quietly ...

Kim;
Another colorful and workable solution is to have Lever make you a custom leather sling that suits your rifle.

So what are a few beaver chaws to a real hunting rifle? My Marbles tang sight does the same thing on my 1886, so I bought a small leather bag with a pull string to keep over the sight when not hunting. This bag must be soft and pliable(not thick, stiff leather) or it will not stay on well. There may...

2008 Gun Digest Article on rifle restoration
TerryWieland's article "Restored to Life" features Doug Turnbulls work on two old Winchesters, a 1900 1886 and a 1910 1894. This is a good read with before and after color photos and a lot of background on the original manufacturing techniques. Enjoy

My approach is usually to douse the area with insecticide from a hose sprayer that will spray out 15 to 20 feet. This has worked well on such critters in the weeds, bushes, trees, and ground. It is NEVER a good idea to attempt to physically destroy suspected nest areas without a premptive insecticid...

You are correct, mine is a takedown, which makes it easy to clean the chamber and barrel. Some folks have complained about the 9.5 pound weight, but it holds steady, shoots straight, and has no discernible recoil in the field. WRT handloads, last year I did extensive research on .45-90 loads on bull...
