2008 Gun Digest Article on rifle restoration

Post by crs »

TerryWieland's article "Restored to Life" features Doug Turnbulls work on two old Winchesters, a 1900 1886 and a 1910 1894. This is a good read with before and after color photos and a lot of background on the original manufacturing techniques. Enjoy

Perhaps I am a complete idiot, but I went to Books-a-Million and went to the GunDigest online site and I can't find any reference to the 2008 annual. How does one obtain this item OR do you guys just have them now because you have regular subscriptions?

Rimfire, you have a great moniker !

I have collected Gun Digest for many years, so Krause Pubs has me on their mailing list for all new book announcements. I always order the the new GD as soon as it is announced.
Also, I do subscribe to the Gun Digest (nee Gun List) publication.
Also, try Amazon.com as they say they have it in stock.

Thanks. I will head to Amazon.

The moniker is a tribute to my wife who counted my Diamondback 22's at one point and declared me unstable. Fortunately, she didn't count all of 5mm Remington and other stuff in the safe.

I have a Turnbull gun and I'm curious about some of the processes. I will post some pics of mine this week if I can get the camera to cooperate.

Rimfire;
By all means, tell us about your Turnbull gun, with pictures if possible.

I got the Digest. So far I've read that Restoration article and looked at the article on engraving right before it ... both are well done with really good color pictures. Some of the engraving is amazing. I noticed that one of the custom Remington 700's has the same skeleton grip cap and skeleton butt plate that I have on my 71. Both were made by Dakota but I'm not sure they are still doing them since their financial difficulties.
