Well GIs keep the cans out in the weather hence the gasket but it isn't good for prolonged storage. This is why the military's ammo bunkers are earth covered. That helps modify the temperature extremes without costly heating and/or air conditioning. My wife can't see through steel and count rounds.....

Oh, I measured the .59-90s I bought and .50-70s Ranch13 sent me. It is interesting to me also that the .348 is so much smaller in that dimension despite being a derivative of the .50-110.

I've noted that many retailers of many things mark up product (including ammo) as the prices rise despite the fact that they might not have purchased it at the new wholesale price. I'm glad that I am not forced to do that by my store's owner.

That is a beautiful gun. I wanted to get that one for my dad who worked for the Forest Service for over 25 years. Never combined the money in the pocket with an available gun. I've the basic SRC now and love it.

Hobie As I'm sure you have already found out; RCBS "stuff" is stuff for severe forming. Please explain the problem your die is having with the case head. Since the case head diameter of the 45-75 is actually bigger than the head of the 348, I wouldn't even think that the die would contact...

I just measure out shot charges for my 12 ga. (.735") musket. They can be carried in film cannisters OR wrapped in newspaper cylinders.

Hobie Have you tried squishing a 50 Alaskan into the die and trimming? If I didn't already have 1500 rounds of 348, that's what I would do. Starline would be great but I would be happy if they just made a short (1.9") 50 basic with a thinner (.058"?) rim. Mike I tried the .50-70 and .50-9...

I just got off the phone with Red at Buffalo Arms. They've got ammo but no Jamison brass and they don't forsee Jamison producing anything but their military contract for at least 6 months. Then it is a wait and see if Jamison goes back to commercial production. Guess we need to hit Starline up again...

Paul,

That's absolutely correct. You can see my cans are labeled on the "front" but also are labeled on top. The 2X4 Basics shelving set-up can handle the weight of the cans. I really need to re-do it as I didn't build the shelving wide enough. I need to add two cans width.

Mine is stored in GI ammo cans on wooden shelving in the basement. Quantities and varieties have grown a bit since the photo was taken but you get the idea.

I prefer the longer cases but have no compunctions against using shorter cases. The .375 is about as short as you can find in a factory case. Some folks like those as a basis for the .30 Herrett or .357 Herrett as they think the brass will allow them to run higher pressures and get more performance....

My son-in-law carries a 1911 Government model of some sort (I've yet to see it :?: :!: ). I generally carry something what will do the opposite of the long gun I carry such as a .22 LR when I've got a deer rifle or a .45 Colt when I've got the squirrel rifle.

You can read pretty much everything I've done here. I'm just now warming up a couple of Lyman and Lee molds. I used a .458" sizing die and those bullets seemed to all impact in a hands breadth at about 80 yards. However I wasn't shooting at a paper target... :wink:

Yep, I'd want more than target wadcutters for turkey and fox and such but mostly due to the trajectory. Wadcutters work great on squirrels and rabbits or bigger game in traps...
