Re: Heat Wave
I was stuck on the tarmac at McCarren airport in Las Vegas. (Thank you allegiant air) The plane got there late, so they rushed us on board. Once we were onboard, we were trapped. No AC in a tin can in the desert at 117 degrees F. (Thanks Allegiant air.) It took an hour for the plane to cool down onc...

I think I did ok in vegas
I made my rounds in Las vegas last weekend, while the wife gambled. At on of the local gun emporiums, I came across a Winchestr 1895. I had been looking for one to convert to 35 Whelen. So, I really needed to find a a 30-06. The first one I came acroos was a 30-40 Krag. Drats. At Another shop, I loc...

Don't bother. Gander is overpriced. Scheel's opens in june on the south side. If it is anything like the other scheel's, it will put the hurt on gander.

electric hoist
I picked up an electric hoist yesterday at harbor freight. I got it installed today. Good thing. A buddy dropped me a deer to process this afternoon. Man, that thing worked great! I didn't have to lift a thing. A lot better than the pulley I used in years past.

Re: OT-beef vs. venison
I do not know why people continue to gut animals. It makes no sense to be out in the dark, tired, with a sharp knife flailing inside a carcass. Split the animal down the back and quarter the thing. Once its quartered, throw it in cooler of ice. imho

Thanks, Fairshake. I always worry when somebody buys something that the shipping company will lose it. Even if you did ship it, god knows how long it would take the shipping company to payout. In the meantime someone is out cash. Maybe next time its roadtrip time. Anyway, thanks for the compl...

Re: OT - Your Help Needed for Momma's Cats
Hobie,
A friend of mine recently went through this with his sister's cats. They were both over twenty years old. He found a rescue group that took them. You might want to try a web search for such rescue groups in her area.
take care,
tom

Re: Hanging deer
I don't hang them at all anymore. Use my cell phone to check them in and quarter right in the field. No gutting needed. Take everything out the back, including the tenderloins. Into the cooler they go. They usually sit in ice water for week. I change it every one to two days. Saves me fingers and bo...

nemhed, If you want a little romance, Take her to the Eiffel tower and watch the water show at the Bellagio. Stay away from the area between the strip and downtown. If you don't have a vehicle, take the Duece. It's a two story bus. Heck, take the deuce anyway. You can buy an all day pass, pretty che...

Contact your local taxidermist and ask for a europeon mount. It will cost you little money. You drop off a rotten deer skull and pick up a fresh and clean skull. It will be money better spent in the long run. Do not put it in a pond if you have tannens in your water. I had to end up painting two cus...

Pisgah, Speaking as a taxidermist, six months is not unusally long to get a tanned hide back. I send my hides out and it is a sixty day turn around time. That does not include the prep time for me to get the hide ready to ship, which could be a week to months, depending on how busy I am. I was delay...
