argos? anybody have one? use one?

Post by big bear »

I am looking into geting some type of transportation for my retirement hideout. I have a quarter section up in the mountains with a cabin. Problem is the road is covered with snow from Decemmber to late April, up to 5-6feet of it. Snowmobile needed for access at those times. TYhe less I spend the sooner I get to quit working I figure, so....would an Argo with optional tracks do everything for me in this case (use like a quad in no snow season, and like a snowmobile in snow season)? Roaring around for "fun" on quad or snow machine does not appeal to me. I would just like to be able to get me and my arthritic wife around on the mountain.

Bigbear, I dont have one but have been around them and riden/driven a couple. First off they "AINT CHEAP" but they will get you just about any place you want to go. They have a dealer 35 miles from me and I stopped by to talk to him one day. My better half had to drag me out of the shop by my ear. I would recommend the 8 wheel conquest for your purpose. They also have a motor mount that you can mount up to a 9,9 (2 stroke because of the weight) H.P. outboard so you can drive to your fishing lake and drive right in. They have a video they give out and it shows using one on land, snow and water. There not as fast as a snow mobile or quad, but they get you where ever you wnt. They have a cab that fits it plus a heater you can get. (all at extra cost) The set up I looked at complete unit with cab heater outboard motor mount winch and trailer winch and tracks was $17,000 (thats when I got drug out of the shop).

My ex-father-in-law had one. Wasn't fast on land or water. With the price you be better off buying a Mule type vehicle and a snow mobile. Mules could also carry a bigger payload. From what I remember, payload wasn't to good.
