OT - Your Help Needed for Momma's Cats

Post by Hobie »

Joe and other cat lovers, perhaps you can do me, and Momma's cats, a big favor. As you know, we had to move Mom to an assisted living facility and her cats could not accompany her. When we discovered that she had this disease, I promised Mom that I would do my best to find them a home. I can't take them in and have been unable to find a home for any of them among friends or family. If I don't find a home I'm out of options as the no kill shelter won't take them (they are "too old") and they will have to go to the SPCA where they will likely be euthanized (i.e. killed). A home must be found fairly soon as we need to clear Mom's house for sale.

I've created a blog, Momma's Cats Need a Home where folks can find contact info and see photos of the cats. Comments are enabled for those with questions.

If you could please publicize the blog so that we can get some folks interested in these cats. Otherwise they are living on borrowed time. Thanks.
Sincerely,

Hobie

Hobie,

I'm almost in tears now. I've read the blog and would take every one of them if I could. So would my wife. Only thing is we got 11 now again. The four little ones we rescued last September never got adopted out. All those who said they'd take them deserted us.

I've posted this on 5 other forums I frequent, I hope it gets some help for your mommas kitties.
Cat Haters please skip this thread, this is a sincere plea for help.

A forum friend on Leverguns.com needs help adopting out his mothers adult cats. He has had to put her in an assisted living place and the cats could not go with her. He promised her he'd take care of them, but he can't take them into his house, and he's finding no takers. The local no kill shelter will not take them because they are too old. If he takes them to the local SPCA shelter they will be most likely be killed.

If you can help, or know of anyone who can, here is the information:

Thread on Leverguns:

Are these indoor or indoo/outdoor or outdoor cats?

I'm liking Big Mac.

Hobie,
A friend of mine recently went through this with his sister's cats. They were both over twenty years old. He found a rescue group that took them. You might want to try a web search for such rescue groups in her area.

take care,

Spencer,

I thank you for the suggestion. The truth is that I've called rescue groups. They told me to find homes for them and/or that they weren't interested due to the age of these cats. All but 2 are 9 or older and those 2 are 6 or 7 years old.
Sincerely,

Hobie

Hobie,

A forum member over on TRF suggested Best Friends Animal Society and gave me the link: http://www.bestfriends.org/

I've looked at the site but haven't contacted them. It might be another place to check.

Hobie,

Here's another thought. Do you have Pets Marts in VA? Those around here and other places have adoption days. We've seen cats from kittens to elderly up for adoption. Can't say what the success rate is, but it's an idea.

Yes. That was NOT a success...

It concerns me a bit that Mom was the only person who would take in these cats several years ago.

Hobie, I gave serious thought to taking some of them in, but I just can't. It was very hard for me to find a place to rent when I moved to Ukiah (I have two indoor cats I have raised since they were 7 days old) and my landlords who live on the property with me would not be at all pleased if I added more to the family. They already upped my deposit and made an exception for me.

I wish I had land of my own, but I don't yet. I'm sorry.

I'm working on Nancy for BigMac. We've got two females that did not do well when we kept a young cat for our daughter for a month. They terrorized that poor cat. I'm thinkin' Mac'll be fine. I despise litter boxes. All my cats before Nancy's were inside/outside cats. But I've had a Maine Coons. Great animals. Had one mixed with Siamese. 18 pounds of blue-eyed muscle. That bad boy caught full sized rabbits and brought them home. He'd eat the head clean off them and leave me the rest. Good kitty.

Are you or someone available to drive South a little bit M,T, or W this week to meet me?
Kind regards,
Tycer

Hobie, we have 4 cats now, less than a year old, all reqd. shots and tests done, nice kittens for sure. I would take a couple of your moms cats, but dang it my friend----I'm in Kansas. How on earth could this be done?, nearest airport is Wichita (120 miles) or Kansas City (145) from here in boon-tooley-ville where I live. Your mom is obviousely a kind and considerate human being with a big heart. I hope some generous person steps in here for her and you all. That black Tom is a great looking cat, as the others. Bruce

Mrs. Mutt here....If you haven't tried already contact the local Vet. People.a.k.a. like me, always check the vets when we needed a companion. Twice I have lost  an older felines to cancer , etc. and had to have them put down :( . I called the local vets and found me another :D . Sissy, cat #3 had been living at the vets for 9 months when I called looking for an adult cat. We know they are in good health and had their shots. The Vets office usually have a bulletin board where you find people wanting a cat or you can post their pictures.... good idea....and you might very well get some calls. Don't give up yet, I'm sending my prayers for a good home.
Keep us informed, Good luck Hobie......Mrs. Mutt

P.S. the "Dog"..what a name, is doing great and the cats are starting to come out of hiding. Still have a lot of hissing going on but it's getting better and Mutt  is slowly adjusting to it all...s l o w l y.

Hobie, can't help by taking any cats, 2 of my grandchildren are allergic. But, locally we have a place that takes in all unwanted cats regardless of age. They are a no kill, and if they are unable to adopt cats out then the cats live out their lives there. It's called Helping Paws Cat Haven or some such, and I'm not sure what their policy is on out of state cats. The down side is it is here in Huntington, Indiana and not Va. but if you are interested I will get more info for you and send it along.

Thanks Mrs. Mutt. I'm putting up a flyer at yet another vet's office tomorrow. I'm glad to hear that Dog is doing well and Mrrt, too!

Mokaw, I can't see transporting the cats to Indiana although I know there are some folks who network to do such things for rescues. Our local "no kill" shelter is a little less "no kill" and a little less "shelter" than they let on. We'll see, we still have some time.
