Re: Info on a Winchester 94?
The way it sounds to me, if it has a 24"(rifle) or 20"(carbine) barrel it would/cound be correct for a model 64 of the serial number range listed. The serial number as per the Cody Museum, Winchester Polishing Room Records indicate manufacture date on that rifle is 1936. The pre war Model ...

Re: The Winchester model 71 a new story.
Elk were native in Michigan until the 1880's, then were re-introduced in 1918 with a small group of animals released near Vanderbuilt in the North Central Lower Pennisula. The herd grew throughout the years until it reached a size that threated it's habitat and the animals became a problem to local ...

Re: The Winchester model 71 a new story.
Thanks all, a question came up regarding the scope and mount. Yes, it happened back in 1965 when my Dad's eyesight started to fail some. He had a local gunsmith drill and tap the Winchester and mounted a a Weaver K-4 in a Weaver mount, the Weaver has long since fogged and it is currently wearing a L...

The Winchester model 71 a new story.
Yes, the Model 71, .348 is a keeper for sure my 1937 standard model was purchased by my Dad the week he returned to Michigan from WW II in Europe in 1945. The rifle was hanging for sale in the Dixie Bar in Mackinaw City, price $100, it went home with Dad and has been in the family since. Over the ye...

Re: 32-40 Win
I have a 1910, Winchester 1894, 1/2 round/octagon barrel, button magazine. I use the Hornady 170 gr. Interlock bullet seated & crimped to the cannelure with no feeding problems, but I resize either .30-30 or .32 WS brass to accomplish this. The above brass is shorter than standard .32-40 brass a...

Re: Dad or grandpa's guns
moodyholler, if you're talking to me, the answer is no to my Dad being a Ranger. Dad was in the 60th Infantry Regment of the 9th Division, 3rd Army under General George S. Patton in North Africa (awarded Silver Star) and Sicily. Then in Europe the same 9th Division was attached to the 1st Army and w...

Re: Dad or grandpa's guns
I inherited two guns from my Dad, both before his passing 16 years ago. The first one was his deer rifle, a Winchester Model 71, .348 WCF, standard configuration, long tang. Dad bought the Model 71 in 1945 after returning from Europe after WWII, it was hanging over a bar, for sale in Mackinaw City, ...

Re: Old time sporting goods.
Wow, thanks for the memories flashback to the 1960's of Alpena Sporting Goods here in N.E. Michigan. I was 14 and did the janitorial work at my Dad's finance company office and the local Western Union office on weekends. The money I made was spent at the above sporting goods store, I bought my first...

Re: Winchester model 1894, 32-40
+1, good catch, I missed the difference in bore and groove diameter.Nicknack wrote:And also the groove size of the 32-20 is around.312 and the 32-40 groove size is usually .321 diameter. The 32-40 does burn twice the powder as the 32-20 with twice the bullet weight

Re: Winchester model 1894, 32-40
I had Sonny France in Okemos, Michigan do the relining, he did a super job, can't tell it isn't the real deal, this guy does very nice work. I also had Sonny rifle the 32-40 with a 1-14" twist to stabilize the 200 grain bullets my Saeco mold casts. So far it has about 50 of these bullets though...

Winchester model 1894, 32-40
Earlier this year I aquired an old circa 1910, Winchester 1894, w 1/2 round-1/2 octagon barrel, button magazine, caliber 32-40. The chamber was really messed up by some bubba home smith, so I had it relined and rechambered for the same original caliber. Man is this thing a sweet shooting rifle, low ...

A long tang Model 71 Winchester or a Model 64 Winchester can't be beat. Nothing made after 1958 comes close, and I'm sticking to it.

Re: Last year the Win. 94 was D&T for tang sight
The Model 94 was tapped for tang sights up to WWII. I have a 1941 model that is and a 1948 model that isn't.
