Re: Double rifle in .480

Fortunately I don’t think I would need to shoot it too much in a hunting situation!

I just want to lock down a good load closely matching the Hornady factory load but with a hard cast lead bullet.

I find that I need a little taller front sight so I have ordered a variety from NECF.

So far the best load seems to be a 420 gr LFN GC over 19 gr of 296 for 1230 fps.

But I fired 42 rounds this morning and I feel like I’ve been in a fight.

In Hemingway’s home in Key West there’s a photo of him holding a Thompson Submachinegun. I have a book on Hemingway’s guns, and I need to look though it sometime. He may have used one in Spain during the revolution. Doubtful. Wasn’t in his job description. This photo was from much later in his life.

I usually shoot a plastic stocked Remington 11-87 with a 28 inch barrel in 12 ga.

It’s extremely efficient and I kill a lot of birds.

But it’s not fun to carry for any distance and I can stuff a bunch of .410 shells in a pocket.

The way this gun is built and balanced it seems to be a really great gun for snap shooting. So hogs in close cover is probably the best pace to use such a rifle.

But I think it’s powerful enough to use out to 100 yards or so if I find an accurate load that is regulated.

I think that one of the reasons Wilson Combat experimented with flat recoil springs was to slow the slide down a little.
