2006 Winchester SRC .30-06 Springfield

Post by 2ndovc »

A couple of months ago I bought a '64/'65 transitional Model '94 from my (former) stepson's dad. He had a massive stroke last year and can't shoot any longer.
He told me at the time he'd based his pricing on what he had paid for the guns in his collection. It's mostly AR-15s, and more modern arms that I had little interest in. I paid him the $500 he wanted for the '94 and din't think much more about it. Good condition and a fairly decent shooter I'd planned to hang on to it for awhile.
Quentin and I went back to his place last weekend and he started accusing me of only paying $500 for a $1,700 rifle. I asked what planet he thought he was on or if he'd skipped his meds and he said he'd looked it up on GunBroker. I wanted to know the details of what he'd looked up, but he could not provide them. Not wanting to get into a real argument in front of Quentin, I told the A hat to have a nice day and we're done.
I found nearly the same rifle on GB for $599 and printed it out.
After spending yet another week in the hospital and got out just yesterday(finally got the ulcers sealed up by the right team) I wanted to walk the Ohio Gun Collectors Show that was at a new facility close to home.
I sold the '94 for $650 within a half hour and walked, slowly with a cane, and came across a great deal on a 2006 Ltd Ed. 1895 SRC. The stock has a couple of scrapes in the finish that are an easy fix. Otherwise it's in nearly new condition. I got him down to $1,200 and went home a happy camper.

Thanks Will! I think we've got a good handle on it now. I'm looking forward to getting back to work on this old place and make it livable again!

Barbarossa,

There were more 1895s at that show than I've seen in one place for quite some time, including two Russian contract muskets. Looked them both over, one had a giant screw through the wrist of the stock and a price tag of $8,500 and the other had been horribly refinished with nearly every marking polished out for $5,500. Keeping my opinions mostly to myself, the condition of these muskets make mine easily worth well over $10k.
I have two original '95 SRCs in '06. One complete and one that was heavily modified and my first deer rifle that I bought while I was still in college for all of $350!
Really looking forward to shooting the new one!
Still chasing that SRC in .303 British! :D

I would love to see Winchester do a Canadian Commemorative 95 carbine in 303 brit as a lot of them were used up here but if you find one of the originals they were normally used till they were worn out.I did see one original 95 carbine in 303 that was in almost like new condition but it was real pricey and I didn t have the funds for it at the time .

Great find. I have been keeping an eye out for one of those. I really wanted one of those when they can out but there was no funds. I have 3 1895s but they are all rifles, one Browning and 2 Winchesters.
