No they are not the same,the diameter is different "smaller". The change to a larger screw occurred in 1984 Thus, all pre '84 336 models have the small screw setup. I got one from Jack First if you call them just tell the girl what you need she knows her stuff,that's where I got mine from....

Keep your eyes open for one of the old flat Marlin hammer spurs as that's what came with it from the factory . Makes it a bit easier to get the hammer back and control it when you let it down . If you choose a Marlin I would look for one used (JM) stamped on the barrel..... before Remington took over. Straight stocked Marlin's are harder to find then the pistol grip stock. Don't know much about them but I shot a friends "10 Point crossbow" the cables to draw it back are built into the stock not a separate part you have to carry with you it worked real nice and the thing was deadly accurate.
